I know this will sound cruel, but hear me out.

First of all, buy her some fun toys so she will be occupied. A bored puppy is a nauty puppy.

Secondly, take what ever it is she chewed up and tie it to her collar (just make sure it's not too heavy for her). If she has to carry that thing around all day, it will not remain fun to her and she won't want to chew it ever again. I have done this with both of my dogs, and they both only ever chewed one pair of shoes.

People keep telling you to just "get a chew toy" but they don't tell you what to do with it. Just because you drop a rubber bone next to puppy doesn't mean she's going to stop chewing on your yummy leather sneakers. Buy a variety of toys made of different stuff like, rubber, leather, wood, and denim. Next you will have to sit her in front of you and give her a chance to try each toy so she can see which one she likes. Once she picks a favorite, always keep that toy near by. When you see her chewing something she's not supposed to say NO in a commanding voice. DO NOT smack her with a rolled up paper or your hand. Take away the object she is chewing and give her the favorite toy and reward her with praise when she chews it. This method will work on any dog guaranteed.

Puppies will chew for up to a year and a half. You can get some bitter apple spray to spray on the things you don't want them to chew, but it doesn't work very well. Make sure she has things that are okay to chew - Nylabones last forever and dogs seem to love them.

Please don't give her Nylabones, as they splinter and can get stuck in her throat, especially since she is small.

We use the Kong toys. They are not overly pretty but are made of rubber and "almost" indestructible :-) and you fill them with peanut butter paste or other Kong treats. The dog has a great time working the toy to get the treat out, it keeps them occupied, and they tend to go back to that toy again and again because it has goodies in it.

Kong just came out with some Ziggies chewy treats for puppies, and our pups love them. It's hard to find stuff for small dogs. Please don't give your little dog rawhide or the hard treats that splinter. And please be patient with her when she screws up. They usually forget what they did five minutes afterward, so screeching at her is pointless and will only give you laryngitis :-) even if it was a good pair of shoes.

We have a Chihuahua-Jack Russell mix her at our shelter, and she is very hard-headed :-) She also has a LOT of energy and plays with our younger cats and anything else that will zoom around the place with her. Is your gal getting enough outdoor time? Do you have a companion animal for her? She needs a lot of attention. Maybe the shoes were to get your attention???

Good luck, and blessings on you for being patient with her.

Have you tried a 2 x 4 yet ? If not run down to Lowes and get one cut just for you say about 3 ft. long. Stopped all the bad things my dog USED to do...

LOL just kidding, sorry couldn't pass it up.
Really simple, take an empty coke can and drop around 10 pennies into it. whenever your dog does something you don't want it to do just shake the can at it. the loud noise will make it stop. Just keep it up though, you may have to do it several times a day, but it will soon learn what you will allow and not.
Good luck.

Put anything you don't want her to chew on up and out of reach. And only leave out her own chew toys. Atleast till she is about 1 1/2 yrs old to be safe. just my opinion.

Make sure she has plenty of her own things to chew on...kongs stuffed with peanut butter are great, as are raw beef bones and other chewies. Also, letting her shred stuffed dog toys will help her release her destructive urges without destroying something expensive. It is your responsibility to keep your stuff out of her reach all of the time.

keep a really close eye on her, when you catch her chewing on something of yours firmly buy clamly tell her no and hand her a bone instead...they usually have lost all their baby teeth by 3-4 months of age so she is either rebelling either for attention or is cleaning her teeth....either way you might want to this about keeping her out of a certain area of your house so situations like this doesn't happen.....

well when she does it, and you catch her in the act, you should get a rolled up peice of newspaper (not too much, like half of a section) and pop her on the nose with it. now if she does it and you come home and find it, then you get the item, put it in her face, and get the roll of newspaper and pop her on the nose. i don't know how you are about "animal cruelty" but trust me, this ain't it. you aren't trying to hurt the animal, you are just trying to let her kno that her actions are wrong. by about the time she is one year, she should have grown out of the habit. she is doing this because she is teathing. i had a pup that chewd up part of my dvd collection. so, you just have to kinda deal with it. it is a stage of life.
