There are a number of ways depending on the fruit, how it is cut and what you are going to do with it.
Lemon juice-dip the fruit in lemon juice or brush the fruit with lemon juice.
Salt & water- especially good for apples- soak the fruit for 2-3 minutes ( 1 tsp. salt to 6 cups water) rinse with cold water before cooking or eating.
Plastic wrap - put right on the cut surface of the fruit immediately after cutting.
And remember to use a stainless steel knife for cutting or peeling fruit, this helps keep the colour.
Hope this is useful info. for you

Lemon juice is the right answer. I worked as a cook in a hospital kitchen for 7 years. We used it with our fruit. Whenever we served cut up banana we would use a little bit of orange juice to keep it from turning

Dipping apples in lemon juice often prevents the brown from coming so soon, but it won't keep them for too long. I'm not sure if it works for anything else, but it might be worth trying. There is also a product you can buy at major stores like Wal-Mart or some place like that, but I'm not sure what it's called. You'd have to ask an associate once you got there.

Depending on what fruit you are talking about, some you can just cover with glad wrap, others store well in air tight containers and others coated with lemon juice stop the blackening process, hope that helps!

If you have an avocado or something that you only use part of, and want to put it back in the fridge, you can cover it with plastic food wrap and make sure it is tight to the cut part, and it won't discolour. I don't know if that will work with all fruit though.

Lemon juice. Dunk apple slices in it, and they won't turn colors. You still need to refrigerate though if you're keeping it more than a couple of hours.
