Well, if you go to the Yahoo Answers Community Guidelines at http://answers.yahoo.com/info/community_guidelines.php you will see that a question like the one that you got a violation for is considered CHATTING & PERSONAL COMMUNICATIONS. Therefore, the person who reported you probably reported you for just that, chatting & personal communications. When Yahoo is alerted that someone has violated the community guidelines in any way they have the right to delete your question or ,if the violation is bad enough, suspend you from using Yahoo Answers altogether.
Here is what it says in the community guidelines about chatting and personal communications:
NO CHATTING OR PERSONAL COMMUNICATIONS: You may meet friends or other interesting people on Yahoo! Answers with whom you'd like to engage in personal correspondence. If so, please use the chat option on your profile page, rather than use Yahoo! Answers itself. Questions that are chatty, or attempts to engage others in personal communications, will be removed. Some examples of questions that do not comply with the Yahoo! Answers Community Guidelines are below. These are just a few examples, and we reserve the right to change, remove, or add to the list at any time, without notice:
1. How are you?
2. Anyone want to chat?
3. What's your name?
4. How old are you?
5. Do you like my avatar?
6. What time is it?
7. Who here likes steak?
8. How many points do you have?
9. Who likes Britney Spears?
I hope this helps answer your question. Have a good rest of the weekend.
P.S. By the way, you put your question "Why did I get a VIOLATION?" in the wrong category. Miscategorization of questions is also a violation of the community guidelines. I just thought you should know so you can change it if you need to.
CATEGORIZATION: Categorize your question in the appropriate category. Yahoo! Answers reserves the right to re-categorize or delete questions it determines to be categorized incorrectly.

Yahoo answers rules over the board like a bunch of natzis hunting down the innocent. I've had several benned questions. I read their rules, I didn't do anything wrong either.

Read the laws and codes on yahoo questions and answers and you will certainly know better next time. It was one of their violation laws.

I got one once for asking Christians to give up all their money to charity and the poor the way Jesus did. Somehow that accounts for "personal ad and soliciting." Hypocritical Christian assholes.

If it was directed to someone specifically then they want you to e-mail or IM.
It might be considered personal communication in which case in this forum is a no-no.
Sometimes...they can be sticklers.
