There is no nice way. Either way it goes, getting dumped hurts like h e l l. Just get it over with, and don't be a jerk about it. Oh, and please don't try to be Mr.Humble, and use the old "it's not you, it's me" line that we've all seen on t.v. It doesn't work on the tube, and it won't work in real life either.

Well if you are good with words write them a letter, and tell them (1) how you feel (2) what you want to see happen (3)tell them how they affected your life in a good way, and you will keep that memory
For example, right now I am feeling frustrated because our relationship is not working how i had hoped it would be. I would like us to part as friends. I shall always carry with me the memory of your beautiful sense of humour, you taught me to laugh at myself when I get so serious, and for this you have my gratitude, thank you for being part of my life, and you know I only wish you the best
Try not give them a reason to hold on after this letter, and be honest, but not brutal. Best of luck

Be honest and humble. Never tell the person your distastes. Just tell them you are no longer interested. At the same time, don't throw up your new flame about another. Give it sometime before having another affair. Give the dust some time to settle... or else, you'll make a puddle of mud that you will become stuck in. Karma is so important. Remember how you treat another will come back to you. Someday, the person you care for will have to tell you goodbye, so the nicer you are to another person, will bring a nicer ending back to you. {if you know what I mean}. WHAT COMES AROUND...GOES AROUND!

Well, first you should ask yourself why you want 2 dump that person? Because you can't just dump someone w/out a reason.

Directly. Dump the directly. Don't prolong it. Be honest. And always them the things you like about them. And the memories you will always share.

Simply be honest with them and let them know what the issues are and that you also have issues that you need to work out on your own. Then if they try to get clingy...sever the ties, no contact.

I would say...I think we've had a great time together, but I think we should see other people and I hope we can still be friends. (I know this is a classic movie asnswer but it works.)
