hey all
my cat is a oriental shorthair/ siamese.... i call him a oriental shorthair for simplicity's sake. and since i dont plan to breed or show him, i dont really care. but technically speaking, is he considered a oriental shorthair, or would he basically be a very unique domestic shorthair lol. just curious. i hope i dont offend anyone. i know serious breeders and such might be upset that i am calling a non purebred a OS. like i said, its simpler lol that's all.

I show and breed cats and the first breed of cat I had was Javanese. These are a longhair variation of a colorpoint shorthair. Which is a variation of a siamese....siamese come on 4 solid pointed colors. These colors are seal, chocolate, lilac, and blue. Javanese come in all these colors but with tabby markings called lynx points and also come in creams, reds, and torties. Orientals come in over 300 colors. Orientals are basically the same thing as a siamese or Balinese (longhaired siamese) or Javanese (longhaired colorpoint shorthair) except they are usually not pointed cats and they come in so many other colors.

According to the CFA breed standard for Orientals, Siamese are an acceptable outcross so what you have is not an oriental siamese mix it is an oriental. Colorpoint shorthairs are also listed as an acceptable outcross. With the oriental and siamese type breeds it can get a bit confusing for someone who has not been a breeder for some time in order to figure out what is acceptable and what is not. If both of your cats parents were registered with the CFA your cat could also be registered with CFA as an oriental because siamese are acceptable.

I think he would just be considered a DSH (domestic shorthair). He probably is very unique looking though. Most Siamese mixes are lol. Siames mix kitties also make some of the best kitties to have :)
