it really depends on the temperment of ur present dog. if he seems easy going, and u think he will be able to get along with a cat, then consider that, but if not, maybe another dog would be better. i would try and see how ur dog interacts with other animals. if u have friends with cats or dogs, try and introduce ur dog to them and see how he reacts. also consider what u are looking for in another pet. do u want a play mate for ur dog, if so another dog might be a better choice. do u want something that will curl up with u on the couch? a cat is good.
some ppl say cats are mosr independant... i haven't found that to be the case, as my cats are very demanding of attnetion LOL
cats are a little more low maintainence. u dont have ot take thme outside or house train them, they litter train themselves pretty quickly, as the mother will start to teach them when they are young. but the still need love and playtime and u will have to clean the litter box everyday. they tend to not be as noisey, so if neighobrs are an issue u may want ot consider this.
dogs are much better at learning tricks ( although cats can be taught as well!) they can be more loyal, and can go with u more places. its not as easy to take a cat in the car or for a walk, and they don't do as well to go on vacation or to a friends house.
depending on the size of the dog, u may want ot consider feeding costs as well, they will be higher for a big dog. space is another consideration... more is required of a dog. cats can be left alone for a few days as long as they have adequate food and water.
i have both in my house. and they all have their good points, and each has is own unique personality.
it's a personal preference really. find out as much as u can about each, and decide from there. the most important thing in getting a new pet is doing ur research and knowing what u can expect and what u are willing to deal with. if u dont like scratched furniture, or have a lot of breakables on tables and shelves, a cat may be a problem LOL good luck with whatever u decide!

Well, if you have a dog that gets along with others, and is rather young, you might want to try getting a cat. Keep in mind that it'll be easier witha kitten to teach them to get along. I've had friends who had cats first and dogs later, and a friend with a dog first and cat later, both without incidents.

Otherwise, you'll be better off getting another dog. Remember also that your dog might not take the new arrival nicely. Show that you still love him/her and that you just got him/her a new playmate, not a replacement.

Whatever you choose, I wish you luck.

Well, if you dont want another dog dont get one. But your dog might get along better with another dog, especially if its a similar sized dog. I dont know what size yours is, but for a small-medium dog, jack russell terriers are great, especially the shorter and pudgier ones.

depends on your dog. some cats are really sketchy and even if theyre nice as kittens, as adults they can just forget about you. dogs dont. but cats that are nice are cute.

Hm.... sugar glider? no longer a rodent, no longer a cat or dogs. in basic terms as attractive and doubtlessly affectionate as any. Longer life-span than maximum rodents besides (15-20 years.) I somewhat have one I somewhat do not have any time for. he remains pleasant, notwithstanding. in case you stay in Florida hit me up and he's yours, cage protected, for $one hundred fifty.
