Have you ever heard Emo Phillips' routine on religion? He talks about meeting someone and discovering they are of the same denomination. As they continue the conversation, they are delighted to discover they are both of the same sub-sect, re-organization, conference, and synod. Finally, he asks about one more minor distinction and discovers a difference. Suddenly it's, "Die, heretic, die!"
The problem with denominations is that they formed for a reason. Enough people were sufficiently upset with their church's theology or practice that they broke away and formed a new church. Naturally the differences will be emphasized to justify the separation and there may even be some demonizing. Remember, this is religion, a subject that deals with the ultimate meaning of life. Respecting another's faith while maintaining that your own is the truest path can be challenging. Some don't even try.
Ecumenism is controversial. Can different denominations find meaningful common ground without watering down their doctrines or attempting to proselytize? Accords and agreements do get approved and signed but who can say if they will some day make a difference?

Some are as different as religions are different: Think of the word "people" and denominations are the same, on a smaller scale. People within a church don't even agree or get along.l

For the same reasons that Shaia and Sunni Muslims are slaughtering each other, except Christians don't kill each other over arguments about Jesus.

Satan is the spirit of Division.
He Divides.
Rich from Poor.
Green from Blue.
Children of GOD through denominations.
One can send a Thousand away.
Two can send Ten Thousand away.
If we all ever get Together, satan has had it.
