If the Bible is 'god's word', then you must obey it - not just half of it, right?
And if half of it is to be relegated to the trash bin, then why on Earth not the whole thing?
WHERE is the logic in this?????

2ndchapter: I'll show you, just as quickly as I can post a question, where I get the idea that Christians either disregard the Old Testament, or pretend to do so when it suits their purpose. Or, pick and choose. Which of these is the worst, you decide - but please watch for the next question, and read the answers.

Hey girl wassup? well i hope i can give the answer to your question through my experience i am a christian and throughout the 41/2 years that ive been saved i have attended several churches both pentecostal/evangelical to Messianic christian and Ive heard sermons preached right out of both the old and new testament i believe that the old testament is very essential to us Christians. why? because we have the book of proverbs which gives us wisdom to live on a daily basis and we have the book of psalms which is important to us because it teaches us how to praise God with hymns. The bible says in Matthew 5:17-18 do not think i have come to abolish the law or the prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfil them. I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished."
Now my point is that without the old testament there would be no Jesus just because there were so many prophets that spoke about him such as Isaiah, Daniel and so forth. I believe there are churches out there that are not fully bible based and a good church should follow the whole word of God. amen?!

In reference to the old Testament and the new Testament is that Jesus only came to fulfill the law of the old not to do away with the law. The only thing in the old testament that do not apply is the veil that was torn for the sacrifice and that all foods are good to eat now. That why people should read the bible for themselves and not rely on what others say. Even if a pastor preach something or the word unto you, go and read it for yourseld.

Not logical at all. This is due to a misunderstanding of the Law covenant and the New covenant. Because Christians are no longer under the Law covenant, some mistakenly believe that means we no longer need the so-called Old testament (Which is more properly call the Hebrew Scriptures) This portion of the Bible contains much more than just the Law covenant. Besides, understanding the Law covenant helps us to understand the New covenant.

The Old Testament was based on the Law of Moses. When Christ came, He fulfilled and ended the Law of Moses. The Jewish people don't believe Christ is the Savior they are waiting for, so they continue to live the Law of Moses (for the most part) whereas Christians live the newer law of Christ. However, Christians still believe in the Old Testament and the words of the prophets. They just don't continue the Law of Moses such as using kosher foods, animal sacrifices, very strict Sabbath worship, etc.

The logic of today's religion has fallen to the ground. I believe that the old testament foretold the first coming of our Savior if you read it you will agree that all the old prophets told of Jesus coming and if we learn how the world was at the first coming we can see where we will be in history when he returns. No one likes the Old Testament because there are too many laws to keep up with they love to think that Jesus fulfilled all the Old so they don't have to keep the Commandments

Why would you think that Christians disregard the old test? The old test, is what the new testament fulfills. We have so many promises there, and so much that yes, we still follow. Jesus came to fulfill the law, and complete it. Therefore we teach out of and learn from the old testament, as well as the new.

If youre talking about things that you need to apply to your own personal life, then only a fraction of what is written in the Bible is usable for that end. Much of the OT was written for ANCIENT JEWS, not modern day non-Jews. Some of it in universal law (true for all time and all people) like do not murder, steal, committ adultry, committ homosexuality, etc. If you sit down and pray and read the Bible with the Holy Spirit helping you, it becames very clear what you need to follow! It doesnt take a Bible scholar to be able to separate Jewish Law from Universal Law.

I am a Christian and I do not disregard the Old Testamernt. The Old Testament is full of beautiful Scriptures and so many of them refer to Jesus. Just because Jesus filfilled the Law and the Prophets of the Old Testasment does not make it null and void.

Jesus was sent to fulfill the OLD TESTAMENT and create a NEW ONE.
The OLD TESTAMENT still has lessons that we need to remind our selves of. They were learned by the people that lived in those times.and commented to memory before writing and the needed implements were invented. Then they were written down for all who could read would be able to read them.
The veneer of civilization is still thin and would be gone quickly without the wisdom that others learned the hard way.

The Old Testament is pretty much support reading. Christians think of God in two parts , before and after Christ. The O.T. is like a book of history before Jesus, mostly about the Jews.
