Is he interested if he asks what I do for a living?

He works behind the cash register at a store I frequent. We exchange quick looks, smile too much, ask eachother how our day went, the look he gives me makes me believe that he is interested....

asking what you do for a living is just a conversation starter, may not mean that much, but with the other signals, I'd say he's definitely interested

Maybe he is just trying to create small talk to get to know you!
