we are planning a trip to Florida in the spring, and are entertaining the idea of taking the train down and fly back, just to say we did it. We will have to drive to Boston,(we are in Maine), and will go to Fort Myers, or somewhere near. We have taken short trips on Amtrak, Maine to Mass., but we have never talked to anyone who has taken long trips. I checked and it would take 25 hours +/- to get there.
Have you traveled on Amtrak, and would you do it again? Thanks for your time.

I've never taken Amtrak, but my mom does it all the time. My mom has traveled over 3500 miles from the east coast through the midwest, thru Seattle, Califiornia, Arizona, Texas...she loves to travel by Amtrak if you have any detailed questions I can ask her.

My mom has taken my daughter on one of her tripsand at that time she was 6 years old, today she's 9years old and she raves about the Amtrak trip...Take a camera, get a birth and make the most of your trip.....Do it!

Auto Train is an 855-mile-(1376-km-)long scheduled train service for passengers and their automobiles, operated by Amtrak between Lorton, Virginia (near Washington, D.C.) and Sanford, Florida (near Orlando)
Amtrak's Auto Train has been relatively economically successful due to the following factors:
1. A substantial number of passengers are willing to accept a single departure and a single destination point, making route expansion initiatives unnecessary.
2. A substantial number of passengers are willing to pay a premium price in order to avoid driving and to have the use of their own car at their destination.
3. A substantial number of passengers find the overnight train travel experience provided on the Auto Train to be restful, enjoyable, and expeditious.
4. The parallel superhighways are congested.

I traveled on the Amtrak train from Minneapolis, Minnesota to Portland, Oregon, and NO I will never do it again. You will find the same sort of goofy, wacked out, riff-raff you find on a Greyhound bus will be on the train. The only difference is that on a train you can go to the dining car or the bar car to try to get away from them.

I've traveled from Minnesota to Oregon and back 4 times since then, and I now drive my own car every time.
