There're 3 schools of thought: Napoli, New York and Chicago.

Napoli pizza (the sun source of all pizza) is a doughy concoction with pockets of differing ingredients. This is how the leftovers got consumed.

New York pizza uses a dough which has been 'relaxed' so that it doesn't rise very much. A thin layer of spiced tomato sauce is covered in grated mozzerella, pepperoni and whatever other toppings are desired- all strewn evenly.

Chicago pizza (similarly Sicilian pizza) is made in a deep pan in which a less relaxed dough is buried in a thicker sauce. Toppings are left to drown in the sauce and, in some cases, fats from meat toppings and cheeses will fry the dough.

Locally, Primo Pizza and Y-Not (Tony spelled backward) have the best New York Style. Uno's (a chain - I don't know if they're related to the Uno's that claims to have created Chicago style) is the only place locally that does Chicago Style. There are a few Mediterranian placed (Azars & such) that do Napoli style.

depends on where you live. Definitely not a chain spot. Domino's, Pizza Hut etc. They are never better than a local pizzeria. Search in college areas because they tend to be around those places where students can hang out.
