If you're talking about embryonic stem cell research, the truth is that the process of harvesting the stem cells results in the destruction of the embryo. An embryo is a human being in it's earliest stage. That's not politics, it's biology. There's no question that destruction of an embryo equals the termination of a unique human life.

Is it morally right to destroy one life in the hopes of saving another? That's the ethical dilemma.

because stem cells can develope into any tissue, it is given an injection which tells it what it needs to produce. You can get a stem cell from the ambilical cord and bone marrow. it can fix a limb that was damaged in an accident, create a heart or kidney that needs to be repaired, it can even helpe parralyzed people walk again. Research is currently being done to cure cancer and diabeties. It is not funded in the United States and there is a huge issue on whether or not it should be legal, because sometimes while doing research on a fetus, it may die, however, if it is funded instead of girls giving up their children for adoption, it could be used for stem cell research....instead of killing a baby, why not save a life?

The main argument against stem-cell research is not against the research itself as much as from where the stem-cells are "harvested".

The existing strains of stem-cells come from abortions or from the extra embryos from invitro fertilization. The claim is that unborn babies have a higher percentage of undifferentiated stem-cells and are therefore better suited for donating the basic material for the research. They feel that since these babies are aborted and unwanted anyway, why not use their genetic material for researching debilitating diseases which afflict the rest of the population.

Opponents of stem-cell research point to other areas of successfully obtaining stem-cells, such as the afterbirth or placenta, and adult stem-cells. They believe that although abortion may be legal, it is not moral and that stem-cell research is being used as a smokescreen to promote or excuse abortion.

Outside of the abortion issue clouding stem-cell research, other arguments against continuing it tend to focus on how little progress has been made against *any* of the major diseases stem-cell research was supposed to cure. Funding for stem-cell research are argued to be better spent in other avenues of research and development.

You kill a fetus when you use stem cells. Its almost like abortion. That is the biggest arguement

Which I believe is BS by the way.
