They are easy to train, but they also have tons of energy. As long as you plan to devote a half hour or so of your day exercising your dog then I think everything will go just fine. On the plus side having an active dog will probably help you lose a few vanity pounds.

Bloodhounds are very good pets. They are very kind and patient. You will need plenty of patience when training your Bloodhound. It needs firm gently training. Do not expect to have full control of the Bloodhound because they can have a mind of their own at some times. If they are not socialized properly as a puppy, they can be very shy when they're older. If you're getting a male, they can be a handful at the age of 1-2. As they can become overweight easily, you should only feed the dog two or three SMALL meals per day. They are prone to hip dyplasia so do buy it from a reputable breeder. Bloodhounds need a LOT of exercise. If it is running of it's leash at a park, and finds a scent, it could be very hard for you to get his/her attention. Do not over exercise the dog when it is a puppy. You have to clean their floppy ears regularly. They can have a distinctive doggy odor, but that doesn't mean you have to bathe them regularly.

A breed that needs a job. Intelligent on average, so simple behaviors should be no problem. Most of the blood hounds I have known have been in kennels, as they were working dogs. I volunteer at the SF SPCA and have never seen one up for adoption, though I have seen many large breeds. Talk to a knowledgeable trainer, first.

I totally agree with MJ!! I owned a sight hound and he loved to chase anything he saw that moved away from him. Get him after something and everything else shut down - even if you offered food as an enticement!
My trainers - been in the business for over 20 years - say that as a group of dogs, the hounds are the hardest to train.

Blood hounds with energy?? Well, they have a lot of energy, if they are being worked. Blood hounds are not good pets as in door dogs go. Their noises are so strong that they can pick up your smell on trafficked concrete after hours even days of you walking down the side walk.
With that said they follow their nose. They are impossible to potty train in the house and they will take off at first chance from your open front door when there is a good scent.
My grandfather used these dogs to track. They were incredible! They would sleep 23 hours a day, but as soon as you said the magic words like, "Load her up", they would run for the jeep like cheetahs.
They knew it was time to work and they loved it! He kept his kenneled outdoors and I would never keep one of these dogs a house pet.
Good Luck and Take Care.

It is a Hound. No it will not be easy to train. Hounds have their own agenda and will not be overly concerned with pleasing you. Hounds are wonderful but you have to have a sense of humor and learn to appreciate their self centered personalities. You need to be a thinking dog owner, IMO they are too smart for most people to handle.
