tranquilizers for run of the mill liars, pathological liars don't get nervous lying

They have to keep saying the lie until they believe it. Then when they take the exam just keep repeating the same lie they have practiced. The more they say it the more real it becomes and more convincingly they can repeat it.

There are also ways to biometrically fool the detector. By inducing panic throughout the test, especially on the baseline questions the results will come up inconclusive. (Puckering the anus or kegels will cause a jump in heart rate and make the machine look like you are nervous, but if done on the baseline questions no inferences can be drawn.) Many people, innocent or guilty, may feel nervous in a confrontational environment.

But you shouldn't lie. That is bad.

Lie detectors rely on several things for accurate readings.
1.blood preasure
2.pulse
3.heartbeat & breathing

If you control your breathing you can control the others.Flexing the muscles in your legs from the very beginning of the test will help throw off the machine, but you have to do it all through the testing.
Pick a spot on the wall and concentrate.Relax after the beginning of the test.
Convince yourself prior to the test that a "lie" is true.(if your guilty)

Panic during the original two calibrating questions. This means that any questions asked following these questions will be on the same level as the original calibrating questions. It is a hard skill that takes a long time to learn. I am experienced in this skill but unless you are in law enforcement I will not teach you so don't ask.

A sedative could work. An upper will skew the results. Or lots of practise regulating your heart rate and breathing.

Practice telling the lie over and over gain until it forms a kind of truth in your head and you don't even really remember what the truth is.

It only detects changes in levels of nevousness, etc... If he can convince himself that he's telling the truth the detector won't know otherwise.
