I was petting my cat today and noticed that he smelled really bad. Then I heard my sister say that the cat had a cut on the paw of his back left leg. So then I went to check it out and I smelled the cut and it smelled like dead animal and the cut was not bleeding but it was all gooey and wet. What should I do about it? is there any way to disinfect it? And if I go to the vet will it cost a lot?

Wash it in some salty water then take it to a vet for some antibiotics. Sounds like a bad infection and if not treated it could die. Good luck. Dont think the vet would cost too much .

Sounds like your cat has a abscess - that's a wound that has become infected and filled with pus (and that can smell real bad). Wash the cat's leg with disinfectant like hydrogen peroxide. Then you need to get oral antibiotics for him and the only way you can get that is through a vet. The vet visit will cost your (in the US) anywhere between $20 - $30 and the antibiotic will be about $50.00. But your cat REALLY NEEDS it; so, don't stint - the vet will work with you about payments if you do not have all the money up front.

I do think the vet is the best option. He can assess how deep the wound is, whether it needs to be lanced or bandaged, etc. and if antibiotics are necessary to prevent infection spreading within his body.

So it could be simple if the vet finds it is a relatively shallow cut and he might be able to take care of it in just an office visit and possibly some antibiotic for you to give at home for about ten days. Of course if he has to be anesthesized for deeper surgery the costs would go up accordingly.

It sounds like the infection might have reached a serious level so he must be seen by a vet and treated.

Although the vet might cost a good amount of money it is important to seek medical attention for your cat. I work at a vet office and I am part of an agriculture program at my school (for three years) If the infection is not treated it could spread through the bloodstream or the paw could have permanent damage. If you are not willing to spend the money on the cats treatment then you should reconsider if owning a pet is affordable.

Your cat has a bad infection and it needs to be cleaned and treated by a vet before it spreads to the rest of the limb or enters the cat's blood stream. If it's on the paw he may have something inbedded in there. Expect to spend anywhere from $40-$60 for the visit + any medication.

Some vets will work out payment plans with you.

Theres a lot you're able to do on your cat different than taking him to the vet. Get a small field, like an ice cream container and nil.5 fill it with heat water and upload a tablespoon of salt. carry your cat firmly and hang his undesirable paw interior the water and graceful it approximately gently. Dry his foot afterwards and get some antibiotic cream which you will use on your self and coat the decrease in that. in the journey that your cat will settle for the paw being bandaged up. try this too once you have positioned the cream on. Repeat this workout two times an afternoon till you will discover the decrease therapeutic and scabbing over. i'm hoping he recovers quickly, reliable success.

You should take it right to the vet. It sounds VERY infected. They will probably give it a shot of antibiotics and then send you home with some. In the meantime, put some neosporin on it or something similar.
Not sure how much it will cost, but if it's a lot, most vets will work out a payment plan

you can soak the paw in warm(not hot) epsom salt water.(NOt table salt..it has to be epsom salt)soak it for a few minutes and the water is going to get icky, but go ahead and let it soak....kitty may not like this, but it will help draw out the infection. Then put some antibacterial ointment on it...Soak it tonight and then in the morning and tomorrow night until you can get it in to see a vet.
