I spank with a paddle. Basically for the reasons you stated. Mine is an old school paddle given to me by a retiring teacher friend who had used it in the classroom back when that was still legal.
My general thoughts on why spanking is an important part of raising children:http://blog.360.yahoo.com/blog-GgIFACYzfqWx8YwvtspSWVmWzA--?cq=1&p=793

I just read that article too and it said paddling was being used in high schools! At that age, kids are practically adults, I mean some high school kids are huge. I'd laugh if some kid grabbed the paddle and started beating the teacher with it. They would deserve it. Seriously, I don't know what these people. f course a kid is going to hit back when being hit and if I was a teacher or someone who did the paddling, I would be freakin scared.

I don't think a paddle is abuse as long as the parent is very careful. I do think that it is totally not necessary. We are spanking parents and as such have found that our hand works fine. Ask the girls!

no way , only use the hand , that way u know how hard u r hitting , and it's more of a humiliation thing than to actualy hurt, and along with the spanking should be an explination y they r getting spanked, and the spanking should not be done unless there was fore warning of it first, and the child did not comply, and repeats the offense

paddles are okay but its important to remember not to cross the line separating child abuse and discipline people should just find the best way possible to teach their kids be it discipline talking or the time out system just remember that the character they have today will eventually reflect onto the adult the will grow up to be even if you dont beleive in corporal punishment dont let them take advantage and use you like a doormat use psychological tricks or somethings like reverse psychology kids who grow up thinking tha the can get away with things usually end up being taught that lesson the hard way who better to teach them that their parents at a young age

As a kid (also raised Chrisitian) I was spanked by my dad's hand and my mom's wooden spoon or spatula. I didn't fear either of them, or my parents. Personally, as someone who was spanked, as long as you use spanking properly, with warning, and not out of anger, your child won't fear you, with or without a paddle.

What are they saying spare the rod spoil the child? What is holding the paddle..you hand. It dont work. It's physical pain.
How about trying time out.Sitting the child in a corner facing a wall. Try read this .It will help better then brusing your kid.

My parents broke many -a kitchen utensil over my butt and it taught me not to screw off and to respect them. Kids need authority, where most parents think their kids should be 'free.' WHATEVER. Awake from the 70's and all that peace and love crap. I work in retail and you can tell the kids who get to do what they please from the ones who have been taught some manners. Of course, the discipline should be behind closed doors. (You wouldn't argue with your spouse in public would you?) Kids need structure and to understand that they can't do whatever they want. The kids who do are the kids who end up trying drugs, get strung out and pregnant by 15... Highschool wasn't that long ago for me... I assure you... I am not wrong here...

No......... I do not. Because I was brought up in the 70's and that was when corporal punishment was acceptable, I remember clearly and so I would not ever do that to my children. Thankfully my kids only have to be told something once.
