everyone fears the unknown.. they don't know where they will go once they are dead.

It is the ultimate unknown. Not only don't we know what will happen, but we don't even know if anything happens after death. Death means that everything we know comes to an end, or at least that we won't be part of it any more. That is probably why the very religious, who are convinced that they know what will happen and that it will be good, are less afraid than those who see the uncertainty of the experience.

it is because it's unknown.

once dead, u will lose ur comfort zone (ur life whether u like it or not) and enter into something (if there is something) u had never heard or known before..although u might imagined.
in the modern society, there are so many scientific discoveries that explores the secrets of nature which allows man to grab hold/control the events happening around them better, Thus, facing death which is something unknown causes fear.

Because their faith in their GOD isn't strong enough. There is a primal fear that after life there is nothing and dying may be the most painful experience they will ever suffer.

No one has come back after dying to tell people what is life after death. They regard it as a frightening thing, because there is no turning back.

they are afraid of several things...1. pain and suffering during dying 2. leaving loved ones behind 3. what happens when you die? is their an after life? 4. have they finished all of their business on earth?

for me its all the people i'll never see again, i would like to believe i'll see them in heaven, but what it that doesn't really happen when you die.

Probably number one is because they don't want to leave their loved ones here on earth.

Also, because it might hurt. :)
