My cat has been sick sense thursday, and I am taking her to the vet tommorow. She won't eat on her own, and she is constipated.

I bought her some laxatives that didn't work, and high calorie food supliment and baby food. Should I continue to force feed her, or would that hurt her sense she can't poop?

Don't force-feed her. Since she is constipated she will have no way of getting rid of her feces and they will just continue to build up. She will be ok without food until you get to the vet tommorrow.

Don't force feed her but if she'll eat then let her eat. She can go a few days without food so don't worry about her starving to death overnight. Cat's sometimes get constipated to the point of the fecal matter acting as an obstruction and this usually requires emergency surgery so if she get's worse or hasn't had any bowl movements since Thursday at all, then take her to the pet emergency. In fact, since she's not eating and the laxatives didn't help, I'd take her tonight.

They'll probably do an x-ray to see how plugged up she is and if it's not dangerous to do so, they'll give her a special type of enema for cats which will clear her out all right.

The real question is, why is she so constipated in the first place? She could have an obstruction or she could have some underlying disorder. Kidney disease sometimes causes constipation in cats. It could also be the food you've been feeding her.

Hello I am part of the Voacational Agricultural Program at my school and I am working at a Vet office. You should not force feed you cat and just wait until you see the vet because their could be a reason why your cat will not eat. Also, when my cat wouldn't eat my vet suggested pumpkin like the can stuff and it worked...... but I would get a professional consultation from your vet before you try anything else.

You should not have given her laxatives unless the vet prescribed them. I would not feed her much, just a little to keep up strength.

I would try to feed her some pumpkin. You know like the kind that they use for pumpkin pies. That is really high in fiber and it might help. If she still can't "poop", then you might want to contact your vet right away.

Don't forcefeed her and don't self-treat her without knowing what the problem is. You could be doing more harm than good.

Wait until you see the Vet tomorrow and he/she tells you what the problem is and what to do.

Make sure she has plenty of water-don't force feed her.
