I was planning to cut my hair but the more I thought about it, this question came to me so why is that?

I'm 51, and my hair is the longest it's ever been (about down to my waist). It seems to grow faster, and although it's getting grey, it doesn't show any signs of slowing down. My grandmother had long hair (waist-length plus) until the day she died at age 92!

Unfortunately, for many women, when we get older the hormonal changes have a negative affect on our hair. It may get thinner, dull, gray, and hard to manage. Often women find that longer hair makes them look older and drawn instead of younger. It is also easier to manage when shorter especially if you are coloring it or dealing with thinning.

There is an association between short hair and being more dignified, mature--which I imagine are qualities older women aspire to have. Could also be that hair starts to thin or gets to be a hassle. Or, if they are older as in like 20s or 30s it could just be experimenting to find a look they like. Hope this helps!

i am 52 and yes as i got older my hair has gotten very short...i discovered my pony tail was not very becoming as i grew older and i had no desire to spend extra time in the mornings to learn to do something different with it so i kept getting it shorter..i am not into pleasing the opposite sex or anyone at this point in my life ...i wear my hair for comfort and my satisfaction..not for someone else..most men seem to think that women should have long hair but they are not the ones who have to take of it..i just think women should have their hair the way they want it to be ..that is about all i have to say about that...lol

Their hair gets shorter because they start cutting it that way. Most older women look better with shorter hair, or at least that is what society tells them.

They also get wiser as they get older, so maybe they realize that long hair can be a hassle and don't want to deal with it anymore! :)

As women get older they care less about the stereotypical long haired beauty. They want simple as their lives are busy. In my opinion short hair also gives a sense of independence. Free from the concerns of others and a beautiful choice in being ones self!

As they get older and smarter, they realize there is more to life than growing hair. Besides most men don't like to have sex with women with long hair, it gets in the way. I hate hair in my eyes.
Long hair is ok if it is tied up in a bun or pony tail.

It gets easier to manage. Older women also slowly start to thin out on top. This looks funny when they have long hair.

I believe the growth cycle shortens, due to a drop in oestrogen levels. But it doesn't necessarily mean it will happen to you and if your mother had long hair well into her later years, I'm sure it will be perfectly ok to cut and it and it will grow back just fine. HTH : )

I am 31 and still have long hair I don't think I could ever go any shorter than bra length....most guys love long hiar they think its sexy.....and besides, i think long hair keeps you looking younger and everyone guessing.
