I used to have a cat that would never want to sit on my lap. It would happen once a week or so. I would be sitting there, working on some homework and he would jump up on my lap, purring away, kneading until comfortable enough to lay down on my legs. I'd see him laying there, so relaxed and peaceful and my guard would drop. I would forget all about what happened the last time he did this and get back to my work. Reading and writing down some thoughts, doing some Calculus, really absorbed in some long math problem, completely unaware of that sinking, slow moving odor creeping up on my nose..."Oscar!" That cat would only sit on my lap to do this to me. He'd jump down, turn around at me, at I could see his eyes, shining with inner laughter.
But to answer your question, it has a lot to do with cats being solo hunters. They prefer to be alone usually, and most of their social behaviors come from when they are really young, playing with their brothers and sisters and drinking milk from their mom.
They like you, and there are only a few ways that cats will show you this.

The cat is showing her dependancy to (kneading) and affection (licking) for you. For many cats, no matter how young they were when they were separated from the moms or how old they are now, they will still knead their primary care-givers - the action comforts them and at the same time, they hope to "calm" and "comfort" you - notice that they knead only when you are either lying down or sitting down resting. My 8 yr old still kneads my tummy when I am lying down in bed and he licks my face when he wants me to wake up already on some mornings.

My Cat licks my whole families nose, none of us have acne. Might be something else. Not sure...Could be a reaction, you never know. I would ask a doctor.

Most cats do the kneading thing . . . that has to do with feeding from mama and massaging to get more out. The licking is normal, as far as I know. My cat likes to lick fuzzy blankets and sweaters (it sounds horrible but she must like it). She licks my arms and hands sometimes, too. I knew somebody who's cat used to lick around their eyes . . . how crazy is that!?!

two reasons
1. cats have very few social skills since they evolved to be solo hunters. However, the few that they do have is for family when they are young they help groom their family memebers where it is hard to clean themselves (example: top of the head) So when they lick your nose they are simply being nice and trying to help you groom yourself.
2. most animals including cats like salt and salty flavors. Even if you aren't noticiably sweating your pours still excrete salty liquids. So the cat could also possibly getting its salt fix. thus not stopping even after it feel like it has been licked raw.

kneading: kittens knead their mother's milk glands to stimulate them, thus getting more milk. as cats grow they tend to knead when they feel safe and affectionate, just like they did with their mother. my cat always does that.
licking your nose: i guess its just her way of saying she loves you! cats that are close to each other lick each other's faces.

it's because she loves you. it's a sign of affection. if she didn't like you, you wouldn't be able to get near her.
