Has anyone ever had to give your dog to another family because of certain reasons. Im asking because Im really sad about it and I know he is going to have a better home but I just miss him so much. How long will I feel this way and do you think hes sad to? Now he has another dog to be with and a loving family but I just dont want to feel like this forever.

Oh yes, I remember those days pretty well.
Of course being sad about it is to be expected. He probably meant a great deal to you. No matter how long we have them, it's always hard to let go.

I'm sure he thinks of you often and wonders where you might be, but... he has a new family now, and soon, his heart will be filled with new happiness.
Do you know the family well? Any way you can keep in touch with them to check in on him or possibly stop by for a visit?

Take your time to be sad for your friend, but don't let yourself get too worked up about it. This is just another part of life, and the emotions you're feeling now are to be expected.
He will be happy. You will be happy.
...just takes a little bit of time.

keep your chin up and... smile for your friend. That you had a chance to share a part of your lives with each other to begin with.
=)

For whatever the reason your dog has been given a new start on life. You sound like you really know he has gone to a better home and that is a warm thought to hold on to. Yes, your dog misses you terribly. He is probably scared and unsure. I can almost guarantee you the first night he spent throwing up because of his disorientation.

You will always have a place in your heart for him, and it's fine that you miss him. Let him have his new life, and start spending time filling the void in yours.

Smile, you have good people around you. Best wishes.

I had to give my dog away because of a roommate situation. (should have gotten rid of the roommate but couldn't afford it) Charlie went to a super nice family, and I went to visit him once a couple of weeks later, and he tried to get into the car with me. It broke my heart. But they loved him, spoiled him and I found out that when the father got sick and was confined to bed rest, Charlie wouldn't leave the man's side, (except to go pee) I knew for sure my little dog loved and was loved. It's hard.
Now my mom is selling the house I grew up in and my childhood dog is buried in the back yard, I cried thinking about him being left there all alone! I'm freaking 39 years old!

I gave my dog to another family and even to this day I still miss her. I'm still in contact with them so I know how she is doing, I even go and see her to see if she is doing good in her new home. Although it has been about 2-3yrs now, I still miss her. Your dog was probably sad and very confused when he first moved but by now he has warmed up to his new family and is just as happy as he was with you. One thing that you can do is get another pet, but if you cant, try to focus on something else, unfortunately you wont forget him, but it can ease your heartache.

It is quite normal for you to feel sad. I have been through that myself, because of space I was not able to take my dog. I do believe for a while they too will miss their first owner, but as you have stated your dog will be happier where he is , and with company also.
I would suggest you try to be happy also, since you know he will be well taken care of.
Hope you feel better soon.

Yes, I have had to give away a couple of dogs at different times. I kept in touch with the families until I knew the dog was happy in his new home and then let him go. I kept busy with my own hobbies in the meantime to keep my mind occupied.

Three years ago I gave my Shep mix to a better home too. He has two acres to run and another big dog to play with. I did feel bad for a while and theirs nothing you can do but give yourself time. I have visited my dog, cant call him anything else, and he is soooo happy. He ran up to me like he always had and what seemed like, he gave me a tour of his new home. Don't worry about him.

Yes, growing up we had many different pets and every time we moved we had to get "rid" of them cause ......sometimes the new places wouldn't accept pets. It takes a while for that feeling to go away .. especially if you were attached to him. But if you're able to ....try to visit him. That way you'll see how happy he is there and knowing that will make you feel a whole lot better.
