It varies.

Mostly they listen to a little music (usually an organ).

Then listen to a sermon or litergury or some priestly ritutal in which they participate (communion, for example). Then they sometimes sing a song (a hymn) or two. Then they file out and greet the Priest or Minister.

In some other religions they may also light candles, say special prayers and even stay behind and meditate or pray for a while in silence.

They pray, they sing while standing, sometimes they kneel, they listen to the minister, sometimes they pray together outloud, sometimes they pray quietly to themselves, sometimes they are asked to shake hands with people near them, usually they offer alms (money) and put it in a plate that is passed around the room. Some churches have people who dance, shout and holler and they have a band like Jay Leno. The minister usually gives a talk, they sing some more then every body goes home or to the lobby to have cake, cookies and coffee (except the Mormans and the Jehovah's Witness'es). If you are good at it sometimes you get to ring the bell.

In the Catholic Church, we sing and pray and read Scripture and then the priest consecrates the Host (The unleavened bread) and it becomes Jesus' Body and the wine becomes his Blood and we eat and drink his Body and Blood and become one with him. His flesh is real food and his blood is real drink. Several horror stories and cults mock this Holy Mass with --The Vampire cults of today and all the Vampire stories--also the cannibal stories. Jesus has said "Unless you eat of my body and drink of my blood you have no life in you"

That varies EXTREMELY from church to church. you might want to pick just one denomination of Christianity, then go from there. Usually there are Biblical readings, though...also prayers and sermons....also some sacraments like weddings or baptisms...but again, that varies.

Go to a church tommorrow (Sunday) and then find out for yourself. :) You can write notes on what's going on, and then when you get home, complete your project.
