One thing that stood out to me is "This is a couple at least 15 years younger" I'm guessing they have children? Maybe they both work? Maybe their yard is not YET the more critical of priorities in their life right now.
I am a single mom with 5 young kids, I do the best I can. I am still the last person to rake, they all blow the leaves. I shovel by hand, they use a snow blower. I mow myself, they have their lawns treated. I am sure they are aggravated with me, but they don't know what I do to keep things comfy for my little family. I learned a few years back what is truly important and what is not. I can no longer do everything, so I do whats important to me and my children. I am sure there are many who don't understand why my grass isn't mowed when they'd like etc, but I don't give excuses to anyone. I would hope they might have the insight to see my circumstance, or "walk a mile in my shoes" before they get angry.
So, from the bad neighbors point of view, here is an idea for you....offer to help! Go next door with rake in hand and see if they, and their children would like to have a "raking party" If my neighbor offered to do that for me, (or even brought his snow blower 20 feet over to my drive when I was shoveling by hand 8 months preggo!!) I would have been very grateful! Hell I would have brought out the hot chocolate and gotten to know them better!!!

You can not make them rake. Period. Take care of you yard, your way. And make peace with the fact that they don't rake theirs. I, personally, never, ever rake my yard. Mother nature made the leaves fall, and that's where they belong. It's good for the grass and soil, they absorb the nutrients from the leaves. I do pick up any twigs or branches, but that's about it. I have a beautiful green yard, gorgeous rose bush flower beds.( I do throw a few leaves around the roses for warmth and food.) So worry about yourself, and leave your neighbors to themselves. If they wanna rake, they will. If not, you can't make them.

Wow, I can't believe he would even ask you to rake his yard? I guess the real question is how important it is to you that he likes you? Personally, I'd find a way to tell him politely that leaves fall, the wind blows and you can't be cleaning up the whole neighborhood!

you may not like it but there are no laws saying they have to do it in your time.
you don't know what these people are going through. you may think they are healthy and younger than you - but maybe not.
you don't know what goes on behind those closed doors, either. their children may have difficulties not apparent to you. so before you sit in judgement, why don't you worry about your own backyard.
if you truly want ways to "deal" with the situation... then, try this: go over and offer a helping hand. get your other complaining neighbors together and have a leave raking afternoon. i'm sure several of you could get it done in no time. and what a way to show some neighborly love.
(i'm sooo glad i have good, kind, caring and considerate neighbors who are willing to go the extra mile to help eachother out)

well, ive had that problem..young people sometimes dont care about the lawn....i didnt when i was 20....a nice suggestion would be appropiate..."when r u going to rake your leaves or ...do you hire someone, whats their name..?" that may make them aware. if you dont know them at all...take a walk when theyre going out and mention it....also, as a last resort put a typed notice in their mailbox and just sign it ,the people on this street." also, u could ask, " do u know who is blowing their leaves in orther people yards?" good luck

Don't worry about it. Yes, it's annoying but bringing it up will make you look petty and will bring a negative energy to your neighborhood. It just isn't worth it. Be glad that's your biggesst problem with your neighbors.
We have drug dealers for neighbors and have to paint the abandoned building next to their house so as to cover the constant graffiti.

you need to worry about what is going on at your own house and stay out of your neighbors affairs. I have neighbors just like you and i do stuff on purpose because I know it upsets them. When they quit butting in where they don't belong maybe then I will do things different , but until then I will just keep pissing them off

Someone could offer to rake it for them for a few bucks. Then donate the money to charity. :)

Yes, it's called taking care of yourself, and not worrying about what other people do.
