religions dont teach supression, but men do. the male dogma that has been prevalent on our society did. no offence to men here, but that is the thruth.

imagine from Chineese foot binding to Sati, from Stoning to Lip plating from body/brest reconstruction to tummy tucks-- why is it that women are allowed to sacrifice in every age and era -- willingly or unwillingly?.

from Joan of Arc and Boudiciea to Chineese Empresses, from Lakhsmi bai to Razia Sultan -- why was every woman opposed who stood up and said --ENOUGH.

i think all of the WOMEN in the WORLD should stand up for themselves and show the world some GIRL POWER.

Any religious suppression or oppression of anyone is not of God! Some of the greatest prophets in the Old Testament were women. Some of the most faithful and gifted believers today are women.
Galatians 3:28 says "There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus."
Women were created to be cherished and respected as a "help-meet" for man. An equal, a companion, a friend. Not a servant or a slave or a source of amusement.

Where did that idea come from anyway? Sheesh!

I feel women should be allow to voice their opinions just like I am doing now. Islam is most liberating to me. I am a convert and I feel that I can do anything!!!!! I cover by the way. And I decided to do this on my own, convert on my own and learn everything I could on my own. I think is not a question about religion but culture... some cultures are very supressive of women. Also I think that expecting you to hang around in a skirt showing God knows what could be a form of suppression.... but if women are offered a chhoice to do as they will it would be best... after all GOD gave us all free will. Women are the leaders of the home, and they can be leaders in business and in society as well.!!!

As I remember, some time ago there was a story about a lady who had taught sunday school for nearly 35 years. She was then fired because she was a woman, and the preacher quoted the part of the bible where it says a woman should be seen but not heard. I think religion is just a form of psychological oppression that imprisons humans and makes them submit to a higher order of self proclaimed righteous dictators.

Hi Im Jewish and even though Im not Orthodox they are the "gold standard for the practice of my religion. I sometimes hang out with the Chabad people who are considered ultra orthodox.

I have a lot of contact with other Orthodox girls and first let me tell you a few things about them. The girls and women only wear dresses. They are very modest in their dress and when I go over there, I always wear a long dress too even though I dress more open at other times.

Now the average Orthodox girl gets a better education than what you can get in the public schools. These are very savvy girls. No one is going to suppress them. There parents take good care of them and their brothers too. Its common for Orthodox men to help in raising the children and pitch in. Often they will stop in the middle of a religious service and tell parents that they need to check up on their children. That is a hint to LEAVE NOW and go make sure your kids are all right.

Women and girls are well respected. I know of a few cases where an Orthodox women decided to serve in the armed forces. Many of the women are doctors and lawyers. Orthodox girls are valued for their minds and not their bodies. A lot of girls in the secular world try to be sexy. Are the boys who want them for sex interested in their minds and what they think or in what pleasure they can get from the girl's body?

Now one of the other criticisms about them is that the men get to do all of the important religious rituals like read from the bible, etc. An Orthodox Rabbi explained that the reason that men have more religious obligations than women and there is a physical separation barrier while men and women are praying is not because men are discriminating against women but because women have already met a higher standard of behavior and dont need to do as much as men.

The Rabbi explained that the in the "Golden Calf" incident, only the men were transgressing and not the women, so God punished the men. There is another story in the bible about some idiot man who wanted to go against G-d with Aaron's sons. His wife realized that he was about to get himself in serious trouble so she enticed him to get on drunk on wine and fall asleep. When Aaron's sons came to get him she told them that he was asleep and could not join them. Well they died but her husband lived.

I hope this answers your question.

I think that it's sad. I don't know how it got started, but early on men got the idea they were better (more upper body strength, penises, not being incapacitated by cycles/pregnancy/breast feeding). It's even sadder that it's been around for so long and enforced by so many men in power that some women have believed it too. I cannot believe that a God would think less of women just because he/she/it decided that our species needed a male and female to procreate. One could even argue God thought more of women because they develop the new life. Thus far, men still cannot do that without lots of medical help. :)

I think it's entirely wrong! Yes men are the authority figure in the sense that they should see to it that the responsibilities in the home are taken care of. My denomination teaches that men are the head "in the home" but women are the neck. Without the neck, the head is not connected to the body, therefore having no substantial use. So God made us to work together. We're equal. None is above the other. And it is wrong biblical and socially to suppress women. Of course i have to stand up for my kind.Yeah?

Many religions do not suppress women. The only ones I can think of that you are probably referring to are Christianity and Islam. But in the religious texts themselves, they do not say to suppress women. In the Bible it says that Jesus held women just as high in status than men. In the Quar'an is says than women have the right to own property and can divorce their husbands, and that you should treat your wife like a princess. It was usually just the people who are usually in power are men, and so they would say that women are inferior in the name of religion.

Times have changed and some people just can't seem to change with it. The bible says women had to wear their hair long and straight and during a service a woman was not allowed to speak. If she had a question she had to wait till the service was over then ask her husband the question afterwords. Maby that worked in those days. But like I said, times have changed in 2000 years and I personally think woman have suffered and have been suppressed enough.

Men and women in the sight of God are equals. Like two wings of a bird humanity needs to have balance with both halfs of the human race. Humanity cannot advance if half the population is oppressed.
