It could possibly be labor. Does it come and go, or is it constant? Most likely, your baby moved down, and it is now pressing on your sciatic nerve. This causes sharp pain in your back that can radiate down your butt and leg.

I'm also 37 weeks pregnant and I know how you're feeling. To me, it sounds like early labor but I don't think either of us will be heading to L&D just yet. Lately I've been feeling so weird, especially today. I woke up after only 3 hours of sleep with nausea, which is odd because I haven't been sick this entire pregnancy. I had some number 2 issues and it still feels like I need to go NOW, as it has all day and night, but when I try, there is nothing..but that pain is still there. Then again, this could be a cramp or a contraction that comes and goes. I've been having dull back pain that wraps around to my stomach and I've been having pains that feel like they're 'in' there. My home nurse said that's the baby pushing on your cervix. This is also my first baby, so we're in the same boat. I suggest just not even paying much attention to it and getting excited over each thing. I was doing that, and it's just confusing me more. Just relax and don't 'look too deeply' into things. If it hurts really bad, take it as a contraction and start timing. You know what to do if you're water breaks or any of that good stuff happens. Otherwise, I'd just say breathe through it and try not to get freaked out by it.

I have to agree that most likely the baby is dropping down like it should do and it is putting pressure on some muscles and nerves. Does that mean you're not in labor.. no... but it doesn't mean you are either. I know your anxious to have this baby.. at the point you're at most of us were.. Laying on your left side is the best for you.. and the baby.. put a pillow between your knees.. it helps keep your spine straight.. if it doesn't let up, I would let your doctor know.. occasionally there can be other things that are going on and they are things a dr needs to treat/handle. Best of luck

Sharp pains sound like back labor to me... Stay at home and if you start having to breath through contractions then it is time to start thinking about that trip to the hospital to be checked out. I know at this point you become impatient but dont rush it baby will come in due time.

Lay down on your left side for an hour and see how you feel. If you are still having back pain or cramps that start in the back and tighten through around to your belly then those are most likely true contractions.

Good luck!

Sounds like the baby is getting into position. I had that for about two weeks with my first one and when she finally got in place and the pains came she came really quick. So, be ready to go if you drop and start with the pains. When in doubt call the hospital or Dr. on call. They don't want you to come any more than you do if you're not ready. Good luck.

I think I would call the doctor just to be on the safe side, doesnt sound like back labor to me cause it is constant.. Either way the doc could rule out labor when you called him and could also maybe give you something to ease the pain. GOOD LUCK....

mother of 2 and trying for another :-)

With you being so close to your due date, your little one is probably positioning itself for his/her "grand entrance"! You are most definitely having braxton hicks contractions if you say they are not coming at a constant rate. But, keep in mind 20 minutes apart is a sign of real contractions..... if they are coming every 20 mins. Early labor, but, labor..... Keep your hubby or someone dear close by because this time it may not be a false alarm! (smile) I wish you well in all that you do... a speedy pregnancy as well!

no, it's probably not labor....it's normal to experience pains that late in your pregnancy...just hang in there. The longer you can keep that baby in, the better!

BTW I'm judging based on your questions in the past couple days. You've been having this problem for days now...which makes me think its not labor.

Go get in a warm bath of water and try to relax .If your pains ease then it's more than likely not time.

get on your hands and knees and just relax for a minute or so and your baby will sometimes move relieving ther pressure.
