Usually feeding a dog twice a day is recommended; taking the suggested amount on the bag and feeding half in the morning and half at night. If he is still acting hungry the food you are using may not be the right one for him. I would suggest talking to your veterinarian about the best type of food for your dog and also have him checked for medical problems. Some types of medical problems may increase appetite.

I always leave my dogs' food bowl out for them to eat. They eat when they're hungry which is usually the same time I'm eating dinner and about a couple hours after we all get up.

Maybe, try and leave it out for a little while and see how much he eats. If he eats a little bit more than usual and doesn't go over board then start feeding him that much each time or leave the bowl out. If he scarfs it all down still wanting more then it's not a good idea to leave it out all the time.

Like everyone has said, check the bag and see what the ingrediants are. If the food doesn't have enough of what the dog needs it may be wanting more food to fulfill his body's need for that. Like I get cravings for certain foods that have certain vitamins in it when I haven't been getting enough of that vitamin. It's my body's way of telling me I need it. Dogs have that instinct a lot more than humans do because we can just read a label and talk to a doctor about why we feel a certain way to find out what we need. Animals can't so their body must tell them.

Talk to your vet also. There could be something wrong with the dog such as worms. Worms will consume a lot of nutrients and vitamins that the dog needs. Also, the vet will tell you more about what that breed needs most in it's food and how much and how often to feed it.

Check the back of the bag, it will give you a range of weights and a minimum and maximum suggested serving for that weight. If you find your feeding in the middle of the range, you could give your dog a bit more, but keep in mind his age and activity level. If your already at the max, talk to your vet, maybe you need to try a different food based on your dogs activity level.
If there still seems to be a problem with him being hungry, and his wieght is an issue, too low or too high, request some blood work to be done. it costs, but if he has an endocrine condition you'll want to catch it sooner rather than later. Best of luck

if the dog's eating 2 EIGHT-OUNCE cups of dry food, 2 times a day, that's a LOT!!

that's 16 ounces, ! twice !

has Ur dog been dewormed? a stool-specimen, taken to the vet, might be a very good idea...

also, be sure the dog does not 'gobble' that amount of food, DRINK a lot after that huge bellyful, or exercise or run hard less than 2 hours after eating such a huge meal.

they might BLOAT - very dangerous!!

talk to Ur vet abt the dog's appetite; that's a very big meal, and TWO is alot of calories!

don't assume Ur dog is starving if they are willing to eat 'treats'; U will eat dessert after a big meal, won't U? but U don't ' need ' that sweet, U just WANT it. same with dogs!

I would recommend talking with your vet and see what he may recommend. It also depends on your pets age and activity level as well as the climate in which you live. Double check the bag and see what it recommends and you should be able to take the recommended amount per day and divide it into three meals. Just remember that dobermans are pretty high on the list of dogs prone to bloat. So to be sure I would recommend you run it past your vet. good luck.

The amount should be based on his weight and you could feed him 3 x per day smaller amounts of food more often are better for him because large breed dogs are prone to bloat. I would als look into a all natural or organic dog food. I give my girl wellness it has the probiotics they need for digestion and glucosimine for joint heath. It cost a little but it has no soy or fillers in it. I had a Dobe years ago take care of them and they'll take care of you. Great dogs! Just like people there are those who live to eat and the those who eat to live!

Well, how much does he weigh and how old is he? Does he get a lot of exercise and burn off a lot of his calories? I would read the back of the food bag and see what it suggests according to the age, size, weight and activity levels. It varies among all breeds and such.

Your veterinarian can also tell you proper feeding amounts.

two times a day is just right, check on the back of the bag and go by how much he will way once he is fully grown, than split that in half and thats how much you should feed him in one sitting, try to make the meals a couple hours apart like 8 in the morning and than again at 6, as far as to fat or too skinny, you should be able to feel his ribs but now see them easily, other than that he still may seem hunger but trust me you are not starving him, my dog acts like he never eats but he is perfectly fine, its just their nature, good luck hope i helped

I've had Dobermans for 25+ years and I've always kept the bowls full and they just ate when they were hungry. And no,they didn't continue to eat till it was all gone. None of my dogs have been over weight. Don't you just love your dobie boy? I now have three, two females and one male and I love them dearly.

maybe you need to change the food. Look at the ingredients. If the first one is corn, that's what there is most of. That means in one end and out the other. He might not be getting enough out of the food. Make sure things like meat, rice, veggies, and other good stuff like that is first. That will fill him up more.
