What is the best holiday destination to go if I like a good adventure?

I've been to HK, various places in Sth Pacific, all of Great Britain and Ireland, and parts of Europe.

Adventure can mean many things, but based on your list of vacations to date, perhaps some of the following might interest you:

1. Cartagena, Colombia - This historic city is the 2nd oldest city in the Americas, a walled fortress constructed in the 1600's by the Spanish who sailed to the west to secure the riches of the "new world". It's no wonder that National Geographic has published photo shoots of this city in it's magazine. Points of interest are the Monastery, the Palace of the Inquisition, a remarkable Catholic Church, sunny weather, beautiful architecture and fine dining. Nightly horse and carriage rides with candles to light the way through winding cobblestone streets are romantic. Emeralds are the stock and trade in Cartagena, and available in profusion to the discerning shopper. I visited shortly after the movie "Romancing The Stone" was released simply because Kathleen Turner's character often repeated, "I'v GOT to get to Cartagena!"

2. Machu Picchu, Peru - This is a destination known for the spirit and spirituality it exudes. Although I've no first-hand accounts, this is one destination which offers a sense of adventure. Atop the mountains, it is a lost civilization rich in history and steeped in mystery.

3. Sedona, Arizona - Situated in the Mesas of the Arizona Desert, this city was originally called "Red Rock", and it's magnificent "colourscape" is one of the most breathtaking in the world. While in this locale, you are close to the Grand Canyon which is no less than it's name implies, as well as proximity to native american history, ghost towns, and folklore of the old west. The desert is, quite simply, beautiful offering a landscape which defies photographers to capture it's essence. Of course, there are many things to do, and Sedona is known for it's "perfect atmosphere", located in the hub of the most conducive area on earth for energy. There is nothing more revitalizing than spending time in an "energy vortex". Sky Ranch Lodge is situated at the "Airport Vortex" and in this perfect environment, awaking to glance from your windows at the red rocks of Sedona is heaven on earth. :) Apparently even aliens like this place!

4. Lake Louise and Banff, Alberta - The pristine turquoise waters of Lake Louise are unrivaled anywhere (see the background at this very spot in my "avatar"). Banff is the gateway to the Canadian Rocky Mountains and a central location to exercise your "wander-lust" in either direction, with beautiful British Columbia to the west, and Calgary, Alberta in the Rocky Mountain foothills to the east. If you head west, steep roads are chiselled into the mountain sides, with many adventurous stops along the way. Learn of "The Cremation of Sam McGee's" poet, Robert Service while stopping in Kamloops, B.C., and drive through the lush "Canadian California" in the Okanagan Valley. It's a vast, unspoiled land like nothing you have yet seen.

Hi Grant, I'm a Victorian bloke cooped up in an OR each and every day. We popped off to the Goldcoast a few holidays back and stayed nearest Cavil ave as we could for the nightlife and beautiful beach "not to mention the babes lol" anyway I love big powerful jetski's and I found a mob over at Mariners cove that had just! the thing. Boy Howdy!!!!! These things had some grunt, I think they where about 1400cc 4 stokes "near brand new" you head out for I reckon 3hrs when you've only paid for 2 - all the way out to Nth Stradbroke Island - around Stingray Island but you weave your way through some of the most breathtaking mangroves "all at flat Knacker speeds" you stop off at Tipplers Island for a drink and a bite to eat- feed the Walabies, maybe swap drivers if ya have a passenger(70km round trip) "mate" I can't get enough of these guys. All I think about now is going back, I really don't know how they do it for so cheap with the cost of the ski's and maintenance- not to mention fuel!!! Try Nicaragua. It is a beautiful country, great weather, especially during this time of the year, and very inexpensive. Also, it has spectacular beaches and jungles, perfect for the adventure that interests you. I presently live here, so this information is coming from the horse's mouth.
