First make a backup copy of the registry by File > Export and give it a name, save it in a location where you can find it easily. You can restore the registry by choosing the file as File > Import, in case something goes wrong while editing the registry.
when you enter registryEditor. You will see five different sub sections. You have to search using Edit > Find. Type in the name of the software you want to uninstall. Then click on search Next. You should remove entries only from the following two sub sections.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
HKEY_CURRENT_USER
When the search stops at a entry. Read it to confirm that you want to delete it. If in doubt press F3 to skip. To delete right click on the entry and select delete.

You can manually uninstall a program using regedit. You have to know every registry key that is connected to that program, and there may a thousand. If you delete the wrong key, you can disable your computer and the only way to fix that is format the drive and reinstall your OS and all the programs. You could write a 200 page book with all the entries you have to remove to uninstall. Personally I use the uninstall program that comes with the program and I don't have to know any registry keys.

True...regedit will only delete registry items listed in your computer. Deleting them wont uninstall anything, in fact, the program you want to uninstall, wont work anymore, even if you wanted it too...

do what the other guy said Control Panel/Add Remove Programs

You cant. Removing registry information may (and probably will) mess up various programs and even your entire operating system... but it wont uninstall anything. Use Add/Remove Programs, located in your Control Panel, for that.
