I'm sure this is not the first time this has come up, but Christians, don't you realize that it's the *approach* of spreading your word that people find the most repulsive? If I meet John Doe, observe that he is kind, content, at peace, and strives to be and do good, and I find out somehow he is a Christian, this would attract me. When John Doe is no better than I am (or worse) and then tries to tell me I'm going to Hell and he isn't, well, who's going to go for that?

it's true that quite a few people don't know how to go about telling people about Christianity without being so abrasive. Sometimes it's because they get too excited/worked up and say things like "you will go to hell" to inspire some feeling of conviction in what they're saying. What they don't realize is that this is offensive to the person/people they're talking to.
And it could be the listener's fault for not hearing the explaination behind why they would be going to hell.
whatever the case, it does happen. and i'm sorry if this has happened to you. But if it has please know that it is not our intent to tell you that we are better than you. we're trying to show you a better life, one with God.

I agree with you. One thing that you need to know is that we even though we are christians are still sinners just like everyone else. This being said we as christians should lead a life that does attract others to the faith by practicing what we preach. Im sorry you have met with "christians" who are worse sinners than you. God still loves you and them. Jesus died for thaem and you and would have died on the cross if it ment only one would be saved it would have been worth it. Even if it was just you.

Please don't laet others who can't follow the will of God disuade you.

Yep I agree with you. I've been a christian for over 20 years, and I try to be the first person you talked about, the first John Doe. It is a growth thing and a process. Sometimes it takes us awhile to get it, and to realize we don't have to beat someone over the head with our Bibles. I understand what you're saying and it's a shame when someone talks to another like you mentioned.

Yeah, that put me off from Christianity for over ten years. Fortunately, I chose to not judge a religion by the people who abuse it. That's how I came back to God. I realized that these people just don't understand. Maybe they never will.
But that's not God's fault, or the Bible's fault.

Actually this is how most people become Christians.

Small children are threatened with eternal damnation and hell fire and taught to judge them selves to be sinners.

This is all done when they are too small to logically look at what they are being told.
