You are so correct. I recently visited China and thought the same thing. After a few days, it was obvious there was no whining in restaurants or on the street. No ugly demands like "Mooommmmm! Why can't I?" When we were returning from Beijing to LA, the American kids came crashing into our world and it hurt our psyches.

1) In France kids are not permitted to dine with the Adult in high class restaurants. High class restaurants are for adults only. so, I don't know which kids are you talking about.
2) there are Kids who are brats wherever you go. You can find them in France as well as the USA as well as anywhere else. It depends on how each one is being brought up, not to blame the whole nation for the few who are brats.
3) In France they have nude beaches, they don't mind it. and they think it is just a natural thing for a person to walk around nude. In the USA, they frown against these things. This is just an example that in each country you can find something to pick pick pick on and think that there is something wrong with that society where as it is just so great in other countries.
4) I have been to France, and have seen how kids behave. They are not the angel you might think they are. If the kids behave, and well mannered, don't worry the adult make out the difference in their rude behavior. Have you seen the riot the broke out many times, the cars that were burned and all the damage that was done. By none other than the kids in, oh no France. what a big surprise. Not France. Oh Lord, but but they are so good. and well mannered how did that happen!!!
5)And last and certainly not least. Try not generalize. But, there are brats kids in the US, and if a parent try to discipline their kids, they get accused of abusing them. It is a think line between how much a parent can discipline their own kids before someone jumps in to stop them or put in their unwellcomed advices.

The same way my Children and Grand daughter could. They were taught manners from the time they could hold a fork. I remember the time when I taught my Grand daughter (two years old) how to butter her bread properly while sitting in a high chair. She remembers it to this day and tells everyone, "my Mimi taught me how". I have "never" spanked or yelled at her, only have spoken to her in a stern voice when very rarely necessary. Her Mother has always reinforced manners and spends quality time with her (she also works very long hours). This is the reason our American children are brats and have no class or manners. We Americans have more important things to do than to spend our time teaching our children the values of class and manners. If you were to ask most adults what class is they would give you an answer something to do with money. It is not money, not anymore. Even most of those with money do not have class or manners. Class came from nobility and was handed down through the family to separate the common from nobility. So when you parents allow your children to act like heathens your money does not cover the fact that you do not have "class" you only have money.

I agree with the banning. I was sickened by observing (I could not help seeing what was in front of my face) boys eating like pigs eat and their three Mothers setting there just chatting ignoring what they did.

The answer is the Parents must learn what class and manners are before they can teach it, then commit themselves to being an example and teacher.

Not totally sure.
1) The children you are seeing or hearing about are the kids who misbehave because they want to or they might be spoiled. Or their parents might not even punish them. So they either want to, can get away with things, never been taught, or is used to things that way. Many different reasons can exist.
2)Maybe the kids in France are being taught that way from a young age. Or some other way like that, I don't live in France so I can't really say.
3)Some kids are just that way. Mean, bratty, and snobby. Others aren't. Don't know why, but some just are.
4)These children are still young, so many are not going to think of the aftermath as to what they do. Their just kids, they don't know the true world yet.
Those are some reasons I could think of. Don't know if you agree or not, but hey. I just got 2 points!

Not all kids are good, its down to good parenting and taking time out teach your kids manners. There are kids that are well behaved in the US,and the ones that aren't just behave like the parents that bring them up. I'm English and i can't tolerate kid's that won't behave during a meal, probably because my parents found it unacceptable. No tv on, sit around the table and catch up on what the day had in store for all of us.

Physical abouse. The French society allows abuse. American society frowns on that kind of punishment. In France, the homes are built with a "Punishment Chamber", it's actually a closet that is 3 foot wide, two feet deep and 5 feet tall with no light or windows. The child is made to stay in there for up to three days depending on fhe offense and if he or she cries while in the punishment chamber he will spend an extra hour for each time he cries/whines. Actually I made all of that up. I have no idea why kids in France are better behaved than Americans but I'm quite sure it's Bush's fault!

It's simply a different culture. In europe the adults are in charge and the children are told what to do. In America the opposite applies. In Europe children eat and live with their parents. In america children live and eat with their televisions. It's just a question of setting a good example.
Rudeness and aggression are applauded in america because it is considered a sign of strength. In Europe good manners are more highly valued.

It's how you raise your child as to how they act. I have two daughters and I could take them anyplace without having to worry about them acting like brats. Again it's all in how they're raised. And I live in the USA.
