Doing push ups will not help you lose weight unless you can do them for more than 5 minutes at a time, rest, then do them again. Probably a few sets of that.

If you want to lose weight, it's as simple as burning more calories than what you are eating. You should try running, or walking at a fast pace. If you want to start running and can't do it for long, you should try a run and walk combo. You run for 5 minutes, then walk for 2 minutes, for 30 minutes. This way you can get pretty at running, burn more calories, and be able to do an exercise for a long duration.

Try to go to www.coolrunning.com for a running exercises plan if you intend on running.

I've gone from 169 pounds (5'9) to 138, in around 6 months by running. I started by just running for 5 minutes (didn't know about the running/walking thing) and now I can run 13+ miles if I want to.

Try doing 5 jumping jacks, get down and do 5 pushups, up and do 5 more jumping jacks, down and 5 more pushups, keep repeating this 20 times - you'll get your heart going to help with weight loss and you'll be doing way more than 10 pushups! (If you can't do this 20 times straight through that's fine - try for 10 and than maybe walk for 10 minutes come back and do the other 10.)

It takes time to build up the muscle strength to do a lot of pushups. If you do 10 this week, next week try doing 12. Do a few more pushups each week and gradually you'll strengthen up.

Push-up is an endurance exercise. In other words it is an exercise to see how many reptitions certain muscle groups can endure before failing. To increase your endurence you need to perform the exercise with less body weight. If you go down on to your knees and do the push-ups then you will be able to do more because it is less weight. Practise on your knees and then you will be able to do more on your feet.

if you continue to do pushups..you'll be able to increase the amount day by day.

You'll be able to do more situps because they aren't as physically demanding as push ups

Sit up work on you stomache, and AB's. Push ups work on your arms. If you want to work on your arms, try pull ups instead. I find them a bit easier.
