Maybe you have common friends. If not then I guess you have to do something to impress him or make notice of you. A sweet smile or greeting will do. Do this everyday so that he will remember you. From there, maybe you can start some conversation and you may ask him to have a cup of coffee or anything. Don't forget to be yourself. I don't think it is good if you will lose your identity or pretend someone who aren't the real you.

go up to him and talk! what r his interests? anything u guyz have in common?
get to no him better, make friends with him.
then ask him out wen u feel that ur friendship has gotten to that point.
