I bought the cheapest hockey game tickets because I simply can't afford hundreds of dollars for better seats. I'm not an avid hockey fan, but I really wanted to experience the game in person. If there are better seats that are empty, is it okay to move? Would there be any negative repercussions if I do?

Usually they will only ask you to move if the people that bought tickets for the seats you are in show up.

It's not okay and the ushers (or whatever they're called at a sporting event) do seem to keep an eye on that. I've seem people to try to do it lots of times and they never get away with it. I don't think it would be a big deal though. I think they just ask to see your ticket and then they tell you to go back to your real seat. It does suck though when you're up in the nosebleed section and you see empty seats rinkside that people couldn't even be bothered using.

My son has asked me why we don't move to empty seats that are closer to the ice than ours. I use it to teach that you can't get what you don't pay for, a lesson in honor I suppose. Plus I think that you would be sent back to the seats for which you hold a ticket. If it were o.k. to do that, don't you think everyone would?

The person that has the seat will be upset if you are sitting in it, you will have to move, because they have tickets indicating their seat number(s).

Only if you don't get out of them when the real owners arrive! Best to wait until well into the game.

The only problem I see is if the people who originally bought the tickets showed up.

Otherwise....have fun.

If the usher catches you they can boot you from the stadium, arena or theater. I doubt you'd get arrested unless they catch you several times. It's theft of service.

They will just ask you to move, but you usually can move in after a few innings or a period
