this may be a stupid question, but i've heard that alot of protestant religions believe that catholics aren't christians. The reason i said attn non catholics and protestants is b/c i'm catholic, and i consider myself a christian, so i was hoping for an outsiders point of view. opinions anyone?? if you are protestant or any other religion, do you think catholics are christians?

--Is Catholic--

It is not a stupid question. Scripture teaches that anyone who is baptized in the name of the Father Son and Holy Spirit, is a Christian. If you are not baptized as such, you are not a Christian.

Most Protestant's who do not consider Catholics to be Christian are actually not reading scripture and instead substituting various formula and works that that say determines who is a Christian. There is not a unified position on this amongst Protestants and there is quite a large disagreement over who is and who is not a Christian amongst Protestants.

The main positions are
1. same as the Catholic position
2. same as 1 but no infant baptism
3. same as 2 but full immersion only
4. Acceptance of Christ into your heart
5. Predestination to Christianity or Predestination to Hell
6. Receiving the spirit
7. Various other sundry determinations

Because who is and who is not a Christian is integrally linked to a whole theological framework, differences in a groups understanding of humanity, God, Christ, salvation, the Christian life, etc. necessarily hinge on this distinction.

my non catholic friends at first thought this.... we didn't read the bible (obviously they'd never been to a mass), thought we believed Mary was more important or on the same playing level as God, didn't understand how traditions fit in, thought we believed it's a works thing and not a works thing BECUASE of being saved that we want and thus need to do works and a few other items, but those were the most strongly felt.

after having some wonderful conversations there is no longer that ignorance on their part and we remain very good freinds - closer in some respects than my own siblings.
