Not really. I am not a big fan of taxes. We pay enough taxes as it is.
Tax. That's the biggest con.

I think taxes for junk food is a good idea. Let's face it, the majority of Americans are overweight and we are passing our poor eating habits onto our children. If there are financial repercussions for eating junk food, perhaps people will take a second look at how much they really are eating.
Of course there will be some difficulties in determining what foods qualify as "junk foods." Do we consider popcorn and pretzals junk food? How about those "healthy" dark chocolate bars? It's a difficult problem, but Americans need to address our rising obesity in some manner and soon!

I think it is a bad idea b/c most of the younger kids snacks would be considered junk food. Why would I want to pay taxes on my kids snacks and not my other perishables?
A con would be that people would not buy as much junk as they normally would. I think if they just pass the law about no trans fat in the food we buy and in restaurants then we have a better chance on getting healthy!

NO!!!
Besides, who's going to determine what's a "junk food"? As far as I'm concerned 60 percent of the food on the market in the USA is junk food with all the processing and bad fillers.

we already pay taxes on everything that we buy in the stores even junk food.. why punish people for what they eat.. The tax on cigarettes is so high now that it is not even funny, but people still smoke, you think that putting an extra tax on junk food will make people stop eating it.. IF YOU DON'T WANT TO EAT IT, DON'T BUY IT.. LEAVE THE REST OF US ALONE.. ITS OUR CHOICE

Definitely. I would probably re-think buying a chocolate bar if I knew I had to pay more for it just because it was unhealthy! When used excessively, junk food can be as dangerous as cigarettes or alcohol!

In Canada, we already have a seven percent tax on it. Doesn't seem to be enough to make a difference.
