Many have given you the easy answers of depression, social anxiety, etc. They are right, these conditions do cause a withdrawal from humanity. Lonnie had a valid point regarding the failure of society at large in meeting his expectations. There are other reasons as well. Post traumatic stress syndrome, BPD (borderline personality disorder-commonly fund in active alcoholics), psychoactive drug usage (including speed), paranoia, and many others. If you don't know the person well it is usually best to not interfere with them. Informing a mental health official is OK, but most of us don't have the training to spot the subtle clues that someone may be moments away from psychosis.

All the conditions everyone's mentioned . Also society's stigma about having a mental health condition means that other people avoid those who are seen as different because of their condition so a person becomes more isolated which can make the mental health condition worse (depending on your personality and how well you cope on your own).

without a doubt you are suffering from depression and maybe anxiety as well--some of the easier symptoms may be feelings of worthlessness- feelings of inadiquacy ,when we don't feel good about our selves we feel that others see us the way we see ourselves--though that feeling is definately a real feeling--you that is not the case. we feel ugly--but we are not in reality.
you feel incompatable when around others--you think others can seeeeeee........ through us and know all our feelings and views. friend no one knows anything until you tell them.. maybe you should limit yourself to just one or a few people you ordinarily feel uncomfortable with-take it slow -- you don't need to be designated the speaker-sometimes you need to listen to others to get a feel of what kind of person you are with--you can learn alot about someone - this buys you time to making a discision whether you should even trust that person with your feelings.. . some people understand us and some don't and won't.d and you are never obligated to share yourself with anyone--I promise you this---once you find a special someone to help you through tough times--and you find that you do have worth--and you can feel your worth- what a great breath of fresh air will surround you and you will feel more and more confidence. hey kid it is not a fast proscess-it takes alot of searching and lots of sorting. but you CAN make it!!!!

I am far from depressed and I tend to hybernate from mankind as often as possible. I find the human race unforgivably petty, too full of back-stabbing pseudo-friends, and unredeemably greedy to be of true value. I tolerate others when I have to and avoid all contact when I can.

None of us really need other people in our lives. We have to make our own happiness. The only true friend you will ever have will have 4 legs, not 2. I enjoy my housecats and they bring me more happiness than any person that I have ever known. Get a cat!
