I was walking in an area in gran canaria without any hotels or houses about, I heard something! looked round and seen a kitten. It looked like a siamese cat. I tried to get close enough to rescue it cause i thought someone had just dumped it in the middle of no where. I could,nt reach it, when i got to close, it just ran up the mountain and dissapeared. I was upset. When I got back to my hotel I spoke to a women there and she said it was probably a ferile cat. I,m not sure, allthough it did look heathly enough. So my question is. Was it a ferile cat or was it a wee cat needing help.

It is sad, but there is a very real problem with people dumping off cats in the middle of nowhere. Ferile cats are growing at such a hight rate that in less than five years there will be no more song birds in the U.S. When I was young thousands of song birds would come to our small town each year, now maybe a few hundred. Last year around our house I caught over twenty ferile cats. Cat lovers don't want anyone to harm wild ferile cats, but we had better do something real fast. Last month I was driving in the woods about ten miles from any house and a bird flew in front of my truck, followed by a ferile cat, I couldn't believe it.

Fueterventura (and I believe other islands in the Canaries) are lucky enough to have a wonderful charity called the Twinkle Trust. They put out food and water throughout the year in areas around the island and then once or twice a year they arrange visits from British vets. Helpers catch the feral cats (and some stray dogs), neuter them, attend to any medical needs and then cut the tip off of their ear to show that they have been neutered. Old or very sick cats are looked after by volunteers. Check the Internet for details.

It probably was a feral cat. These are just cats that don't have a home, except what they've made of the environment. They go around and find food where they can,and sometimes people feed them. In our country, and some others, more and more people are helping feral colonies of cats by feeding them and making sure that they will be kept warm and safe as possible. They get spayed and neutered and vaccinated and if they become tame enough, they will be found homes. The rest lead pleasant lives in their colonies with their people helping them get by.

The life of a feral cat is not an easy one and in many cultures it is not a matter of concern. Here in the States there are many organisations and people who trap them, spay and neuter them, give them some basic shot and then continue to feed them.
So if your kitten looked healthy she had probably been trained by her mother to catch and eat rodents and will do very well on her own.

Some feral cats are quite adept at persuading sympathetic people to feed them. That is why they can sometimes look quite healthy. I am surprised that a Siamese should be a feral cat, though.

Unfortunately people don't look after animals in other countries like we try to here. If it ran off it was probably feral - otherwise it may have come to you looking for food - good thing you didn't catch kitty though because there's rabies & all sorts of nasty diseases that we don't have here - so if you go abroad again don't try to stroke the stray cats.

Most likely a feral cat, a kitten that was used to humans probably wouldnt have been so standoffish.

Dont try to help feral cats, they are really are feral and will scratch you to bits

I would say it was a Feral cat judging by its reaction in running off, it may have been crossed with a domestic cat somewhere down the strain giving it , its unusual look.
