It is like any other country in the world, it has its good and bad places. I'd say the most friendly people are in the country, and Western Australia and Queensland have a lot of beautiful places and also friendly people than the most crowded states, Victoria and New South Wales. Sydney and Melbourne are more multiracist now due to mass immigration in the 70s (Asia) and 80/90s (Middle East).
Beaches, the best are Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, if its young people and fun times sun and surf, definately the GOLD COAST in Queensland is the number 1 tourist destination for overseas visitors and Australians.
There is plenty of backpacker accomodation and there is a large population of ex Argentinians in Australia mostly in Sydney. Airfares are very cheap now thanks to Jetstar and Virgin Blue, as a tourist you can also get a discount rail ticket for some of the great train journeys in Australia. Most Australians will try to help understand you if your English is poor. Same as any country take care when travelling.

for traditional australia stuff, you will want to go to the northern territory for the outback... for beaches, the best is the queensland coast up north, until you hit 1770 andthe gold coast... you can also go to brisbane, perth, sydney is the best in aus cuz they have the big new years eve parties n stuff. you can go from new south wales to tasmania... you will definately wanna check out australia zoo and the great barrier reef in queensland. the sydney opera house in sydney new south wales. you should find some places that you can hang out with aborigines and do the traditional dances, but only men can do the dances.. you should visit www.australia.com and that will give you a whole range of ideas for travel stuff..

The parts of Australia that are least like the rest of the world, but are fabulous are the Centre, Uluru and Alice Springs and the Kimberley in the Northwest. And the Barrier Reef.

I had a friend who lived in New Castle. It isn't a tourist town as much as Sydney but he always called it the most beautiful place on earth to him. (Close to Sydney.)

It really depends on what you want to see. Every state has something different to offer and the people are, on the whole, really nice.
