He's turning 4, has so many toys and doesn't play with half of them so I don't really want to get him more toys. I was thinking of a tent for a his bed (he had a box on his bed once and I was going to take it for betime but he wanted to sleep in it). I was also thinking about a comfy chair for his room or the living room. Do you think books are boring? Any suggestions except for toys unless they're cool but not too expensive (around $40 or less)

Our little man is turning 4 in December, and he is so into Thomas The train........ ....... his favorite is the little wood track set with Thomas and a couple coal cars. He plays with it every day, he makes the tracks in different shapes. About $30 for the set. If he isn't into Thomas, they have little kid laptops for about $30 with games and learning stuff that are pretty cool. That's what we're getting for ours for his birthday.

My boys loved play silks, 1 yard square pieces of silk dyed different colors, they could be pirates or make a lake or a field, or be a prince or a knight, or make a tent. 3 or 4 silks in different colors would be fun. They also loved dress up clothes - sometimes you can find really cool stuff at resale shops, costumes, instruments, cowboy boots and hats... The tent is a great idea. Some kids love books and some are more into the video thing. We have a family friend who always takes them out for a special meal on their birthdays and they really look forward to that as well, feeling grown up, eating in a restaurant and being the center of someone's attention.

At Christmas time I sit my girls down with any insert from the paper that has toys in it. Ask them to circle the toys that they want. Course they want them all. From that at least I know a little something of what they might like. I take that to the store a pick something out. Age approved for each child and what I think they might like. Only the mother really knows.
I have done it with b-day things to and it works fine.
I don't say you can or cant have this or that because of the price or age or something else. I just let them circle away and I do my decisions later on my time. Don't involve them on what they can or cant have.

My son just turned 4 in August and his favorite gift was a soccer goal from Fisher Price ($25). He also really liked the books he got and a tent he received right before his birthday as a hand-me-down. Your ideas are great! He also has a bean bag chair at my parents house that he loves.

When my son was 4 one of his favorite things was an inexpensive popup play tent. He played in it for hours in the living room and often took a pillow in for a nap. Later someone bought him a bag of plastic balls that we dumped into the tent and he used it like a ball pit. Lots of fun and easy to put away when you need to unlike the blowup ball pits. And books are not boring. My son is grown and still has a love of reading. He says some of his best times were when we would sit down together and read books aloud.

U can get him a remote control car. I got my 5 year old daughter the V smile video game system for her birthday and she lovessss it, thats all she wants to do. U can get him the video games for his age like toy story, bob the builder etc. It is a fun game for kids of all ages and teaches them at the same time..and its not considered a toy even though it is soo much fun! Good Luck!

It basically depends on what the little boy likes. If your nephew likes cartoon characters ex-spiderman or any character you can find in stores. You couldl buy him a pillow with the character on it or a fleece throw some night clothing socks underwear or even some swim trunks! But be sure to buy him something that shows his personality and something that will but a assuriing smile on his face and yours! -the one with it all-

Most of your ideas are very good! Tell him too make a birthday list, like he does with santa. Say he'll get one thing off the list that he makes! It works all the time with my four year old cousin.

Have a party for him with a big birthday cake, at hooters bar & grill. It will be something he can brag about the rest of his life. Invite all this friends too. Also, might be within your budget!
