Alright, say I have 20 still photos, and a few videos in WMM.. I have a 5 minute mp3 song playing, which is cool during the still photo slideshow style thing, but I want to drop the volume of the song when the actual videos come up, so I can hear the audio of the video I shot...

It seems I can only change the volume balance of the two audio tracks for the WHOLE movie, not just the little clips.....

Your observation is correct. The volume is constant and cannot be changed. The way I did it is download a MP3 splitter and split the song into two pieces. Then use the pieces separately. The MP3 splitters, which you can find on CNET (download.com) are free to try, and you get about five or so splits before the program tries you force you to pay, but it should be enough to get your project completed.

I haven't used WMM, however, I have used iMovie HD on a Mac, and I've heard both programs are suppose to do some of the same things. So, maybe WMM might have something I've noticed in iMovie HD.

I tried to find the easiest way to describe it and it turns out there's a short tutorial movie showing how to do it. It's about two minutes long, but you can skip to the middle where the part about changing volumes for clips begins.

Adding a Soundtrack

So, similar to what happens in the tutorial for iMovie HD, there might be a menu item in the View menu in WMM for showing the clip volume levels, too. Maybe? I would hope so.

If not, maybe you can edit it on a friend's Mac? That might be easier than spitting the song into parts only to discover that you really wanted to split it differently. I mean, what if you change your mind on how you want to order the pics and movie clips and their lengths? Sounds a bit laborious and deterring to have to re-split every time.

I really hope there is a menu item for showing the clip volumes in WMM so you don't have to do that.

Adjust the frequency amplitude of your mp3 song. The higher the amplitude the "louder" the sound appears... however, be careful not to over-modulate your levels (sometimes called, "going into the red"). If that happens, you'll get distortion in your playback.

MP3 Direct Cut is a free editing software that can be downloaded from... http://mpesch3.de1.cc/

Note, this one way to attack your problem....

Good luck and have fun.

p.s. you will have to cut, edit and resplice your tracks to make this work.

Split the song at the part you want to adjust the volume at, right click the part you want louder, click Volume, and make it a little louder. Not too loud, though.
