I was siting at my computer and the front door to my house was open, a boston terrier walked in the house, I thought it belonged to my neighbor, because she has two of them, but this dog did not belonge to them. The dog seems to be less than a year old. I do not know who the owner is what should I do? I do not want anybody to think I was trying to steal the dog, and I don't want to send him to a animal shelter.

Post flyers, but here's a tip DO NOT POST A PHOTO OR BREED!! People who are looking for a free dog will claim it is theirs! Just post a flyer that says "Found Dog" and your phone number, when people call make them tell you what their dog looks like, if it is male or female, etc. so you can be sure it is really their pet.
Bring it by a vet and ask them to scan it's neck for a microchip, if it has one, you can find the owner that way.
If nobody calls to claim him, you have found a friend! I suggest you not take him to the shelter, because if the owner tries to find it, the shelter will never tell him who adopted it, and that's awful.
Good luck!

call all of the local vet hospitals in your area and give them the information...you can also ask them to scan for a microchip...call your local shelter as well and let them know to call you if they have anybody looking for a boston terrier. Many people don't go this far, but if the owner is looking for them it helps alot. I've seen many dogs looking for new homes because the people who found them didn't try hard enough.

The shelter is the place to send the dog. They can scan and see if it is microchipped and look for the owner. You can tell them you want to adopt the dog is no owner is found. That dog would not be put to sleep. It would also get vet care at the shelter.

Why Not?...that's one place the owners will look for him is at the shelter.
and although you love animals it's not your place to keep the dog at your house. If you found a infant in the trash alive and well would you take the baby home...No! you would call the police right!.

Post "Found Dog" signs in your neighborhood, but no pictures. If people call, ask for a description. You could also call vets in your zip code and ask if they may know of somebody who has a B.T. puppy or if they know of one who got lost. If you don't hear a response, congratulations! You have a new best friend!

You could give the puppy to me!!!!!!!!!! LOL. Actually you should take it to the vet and have them scan it for the identity chip between its shoulder blades. If there isn't a chip I would put flyer's up...and if there is no response, it looks like you got yourself a Boston terrier in your life..... Enjoy him!

Put an ad in the newspaper, I think they are free if you find something. Call your local radio stations, and you can put it on line on your local radio stations. Ask you local police if anyone reported a missing dog. Good luck!
