Good area in LA to enjoy before cruise?

Question

Hey, I'm going on a cruise in december and still have to book a night at a hotel in LA.
I don't really want to book a hotel in san pedro (where our port of call is) because I hear it is all industrial. I would like to stay somewhere nearby yet, with something fun to do in the meantime. Any ideas? Thanks.

The areas that you want are definitely all on the northside of Los Angeles. Look on a map, and you'll see that Santa Monica on the coast goes over to Beverly Hills (UCLA) and Hollywood and on to Burbank. The entire San Fernando valley north Burbank is nice. All those areas are nice because it's where the movie industry is located! Venice Beach is about a mile or two south of Santa Monica. Pick any one of those spots (except Hollywood maybe) and there won't be a lot of gangs or anything like that. Hollywood has quite a few punks/ goth hanging out. Go see the UCLA campus - it's absolutely beautiful. It's a part of Beverly Hills. Drive all around the area that I described above - it's the "happening" part of town. Santa Monica Blvd, Sunset Blvd, Wilshire Blvd.

Try Long Beach, CA. There is a whole bunch of restaurants near the LB Convention Center and downtown Long Beach.

Well, comment to the above poster: UCLA is actually in Westwood, not Beverly Hills. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UCLA). But it's in the westside of Los Angeles, nonetheless.

ok try this place its called "The Pantry" at 9th and Figureo and lots of celeberties go there to eat// it looks like a dump but its a good place// You'll like it//
