I know of an old fashioned remedy that my mother used on my dad's shoulder pains. All you need are potatoes and a small towel or bath towel. Boil the potatoes until they are soft, drain them and mash them up and immediately put them in the center of the towel and close the towel up. It provides moist heat but be careful, you may need an extra layer of towel in the beginning because they're hot!!! Hope this helps!

Depends on whats causing the pain. Capsaicin cream is good for arthritic pain and muscular pain. A TENS unit does pretty well for neural pain. Heat can be soothing as long as you don't have a lot of inflamation, in which case ice is better.

if the pain is deep, you should try some menthol oil that they sell at the chinese stores (pretty strong stuff so wear a latex glove). if it's close to the surface a hot pack, bengay, and a nice massage will do.

15 mins of ice then 15 mins of heat and just keep switching them, try massage and if all else fails go to the doc and get some good pain killers to numb everything.
