I personally did the Atkins diet with great results, however as soon as you stop the diet you start gaining the weight back and a lot of people gain all the weight back plus more. This goes for all protein diets not just Atkins but this website I VERY highly recommend you read before starting any protein diet.

When I graduated college I had 20 lbs to get rid of. I do not believe in diets.. life change works. Eat smaller amounts, lots of veggies, exercise EVERYDAY! I run 3 miles everyday. Drink lots of water. If you exercise then you can still splurge on certain foods. I eat a light breakfast, light lunch and whatever for dinner (but always veggies and some sort of protein). I lost 30 lbs and that was 6 years ago. I also enjoy 2 glasses of wine every night and a few more on the weekends! I am 5 feet and 110 lbs now and very happy with that! Good luck

No I have never tried it. This is what works for me. I eat those frozen low fat meals like Healthy Choice or Lean Cuisine for lunch and watch my fat intake--no more than 10 grams of Saturated fat. I also look at all the bottles of stuff, like salad dressings, etc. Then I eat things that are better for me--like lots of vegetables. I have lost 15 pounds. I don't stop eating things I like altogether, especially on the weekends, but I do observe what I eat now. I know that giving up everything I like will not be good b/c I will just gain it all back eventually. Those fad diets just don't cut it. However, if you are really overweight and need to lose it fast, then you should talk to your doctor or a nutritionist and decide which diet is best for you.

This past summer I decided to get in shape. For the first week I went to the gym for 2 hours several times a week. Then I switched to biking (3-4 hours daily), and added running into the mix. I eventually phased out the biking and went entirely with running once I could run for an hour.
I made sure to eat low-calorie, too. I stuck to 1500 calories or less per day. I drank lots of water- try having a glass everytime you want a snack.
I'm not sure how much I lost- anything that I lost in fat came back as muscle. I did lose 5 inches off my waist, though.

I've lost over 5o pounds by modifying my diet but I don't think of it as a diet, it's a lifestyle change. And yes, lots of exercise.

Eating the same amount of calories (a sensible amount) but breaking it up into five meals instead of three has worked for me. It get's your metabolism up and helps you burn more fat.
