Most definetly. Travellling at 70MPH, needs quicker reactions than travelling at 30. The reason why people are scared of motorways is because they haven't been taught to use them properly, oh and of course, those people that think it's a good idea to drive 6foot behind you!
Motorways are safe places to travel if you know what you are doing and keep you eyes and mind on the vehicles around you.
I understand the concerns of people that live far away from motorways, Cornwall, highlands of Scotland, West Wales, etc, but surely itis in everyones interest that if you intend to travel on these roads, that you know what to do.

I think its a good idea for pass plus to be made compulsary as a safety measure, however, there are a few things that just wouldnt be made possible for every driver. For instance, driving in conditions such as rain, snow, night time, motorway to name a few would be hard if it wasnt snowing, or if you lived in deep cornwall where the nearest motorway would be a drive in itself to get to. I am all for it though, i have been driving for over 15 years and never took a pass plus, but i am told it can reduce you insurance premium by having this test once you qualify as a new driver.

yes ... but it needs to go further - new drivers should be tested in the dark, in the rain, in fog, on snow or ice, country lanes, rush hour traffic - etc etc in all weather and lighting conditions and only if successfull allowed a full license. Like airline pilots if they fail a particular part then the license should be restricted to only allow them to drive (for example) in daylight or dry weather conditions. Also all new drivers should take their test every year for 5 years to prove they haven't adopted bad habits.

No
Motorway diving is dad easy, just follow the car in front keeping a 6 foot gap.
It is single track roads which new drivers need to know about, judging arrival at passing places so as to avoid stopping and more importantly learn how to avoid the earths most stupid creature, the sheep

yes, i have thought this for years. apart from the motorway stuff, finding your way on your own is something you dont get for your test or driving for 3 hours at a time.
