Some people, in fact I believe most people that are gay choose to be gay. I don't believe that it is an innate trait. If it were genetic, that trait would eventually die out, since gays very rarely reproduce. So the question is, what is going on in the heads of people that choose to turn gay. I don't think anyone has figured out what it is exactly. As you can see from most of the answers to this question, most of society is ignorant and chooses to believe that it is not a choice. I tend to think that people do whatever it takes to have a good sexual relationship. And if they can't find someone of the same sex that fulfills that need, or if they "know" that the opposite sex will never be attracted to them, then they can immediately be accepted by the gay community. I think that is closer to the truth than all this "they are born gay" crap that people keep trying to convince us about.

well..here is a big question...you said gay..then you mention people who were straight and tried same sex relations...which only states that thise peole in question are either bi or bi curious...bi people may be exercising choice...but not all. Lets look at some of society's homophobic antics. Would you choose to be something if doing that was going to get you beat up, alienated, or even rejected from your family? for a lot of gay people...saying this is a choice is almost humorous.

They were never weaned off the pacifier or it was too late. No, but I don't think there is any one reason. I have a son who is gay and we talked about it before, so I could understand. I know that he did not like his mother cause she use to bring all different types of men into the house and they were gone, so I know he has a hatred for women, then too, I don't know what might of happened in his childhood....he might of been molested as well, but I wasn't around. My first choice would be that something did happen in his childhood, but what I don't know. I must say too, that I absolutely don't believe that someone is born gay, they choose to be that way. When they do say they were born that way...then to me it's just an excuse to justify the behavior they choose to live by. They say love see no color, sex, status, health, disability....etc. Thats true...I love my mother, father, brother, sisters and guy friends as well, but that does not mean that I have to sleep with them, and I love them with all my heart.

Gay people do not "choose" to be gay any more than you got to choose to be straight. There have been many scientific studies that support the idea that it is more biological than psychological. Thinking it is a choice is a weapon that conservatives and people from the religious right use to make gays appear "immoral" or deviant. We are all God's creatures - no matter what our race, religion, or sexual preference.

I really can't think of any reason why someone would choose to be gay, which makes me want to believe that some people just are gay. Goes against what I've been taught, but hey, you gotta think for yourself.
Also, I never remember a time in my life when I chose to be attracted to women.

i think of homosexuals already are conscious of the negatives, yet do no longer care. i'm able to basically think of they chosen to be gay become because of a greater robust charm in direction of their gender than yet another. I mean, that's what defines homosexuality final I checked. i would not understand for specific however, i'm no longer gay. I basically say it quite is a decision because of fact.....properly, if it have been genetic, could you have the skill to alter it on the drop of a hat? No. you may no longer voluntarily substitute your eye colour or hair colour, why could you have the skill to alter the different ingredient of your self it quite is set via genetics? i've got seen far too a lot of human beings be with women, then turn around and be with men or vice versa to make me think of that is genetic. is mindless.

Actually I don't think gay people have a choice they just are that way, just like I am straight. I don't think many traumatic things have to happen, it might be upsetting for some but it is what it is.
