how much drainage should be expected from one on a 16mth. old ,in the lowerknee region with moderate swelling? I took her to the er on fri. and they just looked at it gave me bactrim and sent me on my way. the infection is so bad that my wife and i drained it for 20 minutes and still didnt get it all. ive had the same things and never got as much pus out of mine? i know all i can do is wait and giver the heat packs and bactrim, and help it drain to releive pressure and help fight the infection. but how much should i expect?

My advice would be to take her to the doctor immediately. A boil is part of the staph infection family and staph infection is never something to play around with. She needs to have it surgically lanced and properly drained. Maybe even iv antibiotics...especially if it is still draining so much.

The amount of drainage depends on how big the abscess is, with a child so young and unable to express very well I would take her back to a doctor to be sure.

sounds like a staff infection . get your family physician to send a sample to the lab and then give you the appropriate anti-biotic ...... that shoould also stop future outbreaks as well!

i had an abcess and it was removed by a general surgeon it is not something that should be messed with if it is deep.
