I used to work in a petstore and I never recommended Iams due to their testing. I hate that they get away with it. Be careful with PETA. I have had personal experiance with them while working in the petstore. They didn't like us because we sold birds, lizards and small animals like hampsters for pets. They have good hearts but take things way too far. Don't do anything drastic but speak up about what you know, If someone on answers askes for a good food, make sure they know that iams tests on animals. I usually tell people any pet food you can buy at walmart is not the way to go.

dmaf81 - animal testing has a wonderful purpose when it comes to finding cures for things like diseases. Testing on animals when it comes to another animals petfood or a shampoo that millions of humans are willing to test themselves is not right. People get paid to test products.

I watched the video and it did not seem to correlate well to what PETA was saying about iAMS. It did look more like a group of very ill dogs and not in any context that I could identify. You must not forget that PETA has an agenda and has been caught in hoaxes before. This video could have been of something that was happening many years ago. It certainly did not look as if the facility was any where near state of the art. Any thing of this bad a nature would be getting more general play than just a PETA web site. This is not to say that animal cruelty should not be vigorously opposed. You must take care, though, to validate all claims made by anyone, especially those with an ideological ax to grind.

Because animal cruelty and dog food are two different things. First, PETA is not the only organization who has uncovered IAMS cruelty. It has been going on for many years. Did you also know that many pet foods are actually rendered dead animals? A collection of large road kill, euthanized animals from shelters and veterinarians, etc. There is a book called, Foods Pet Die For. It also lists Iams and it's 'sins' against animals. There are no laws for pet food ingredients, only guidelines that do not have to be followed. So what is in your pet's food? Cancer anyone.

The video was proven to be falsified and doctored YEARS ago! The animal rights groups will say and do anything to further their no more pets agenda. You'd think they would be embarrassed, but they have no shame.

HSUS, PeTA, DDAL , IDA, BF, etc, they are all the same. They tell halftruths and outright lies to further their goal of ending all pet ownership. If you love having your dogs, they are not your friends.

PeTA (as well as the others) targets any group who will not support their radical agenda for their nasty smear campaigns.

Well, unfortunatelly, it's still one of the major pet food for the Cats and Dogs, and the company needs to persue their interest "to get maximum profit"...

May be what you can do is to not to buy that product yourself. You always have the right to avoid what you don't like in the free market economy:)

Consider being given two options--feed your cat "this" food that no other animal has ever eaten and we can't tell you what it could do to your cat, or feed your cat "this" food, a food we've fed cats and they've had positive reactions to it. Which would you be more apt to purchase?

But why would you feed your cat IAMS anyway? It's crap food, has little in it but corn, wheat and other junk (some of the junk so "junky" it can't even be given a proper name on the ingredient list--such as byproducts). By-products are whatever the company can get a hold of. Could be one thing this week and totally different the next.

Nonetheless, what else would you have them test the food on? If it's cat food, it only makes sense we use it on cats.

I think animal testing is great. I don't know what all the fuss is about. I mean, animals don't feel pain.If they did, you'd think they would have developed some way of informing us. Is that not why they can't communicate. Surely evolution has dictated that that's what they're for. If they made more noise when they were in pain I think there'd be some argument. At the moment though I think they're contribution to science is commendable. Once they start talking we can congratulate them properly. If they ask us to stop (politely) then fair enough.

for everyone who thinks this is so horrible and plans to stop buying the product because of animal testing, may i suggest you also stop buying the shampoo, make-up, toothpaste, hairspray, hair gel, nail polish, household cleaners, soap, lotion and all the other daily "necessities" you use. the vast majority of these items are made by companies that test ALL their products on animals.
