Doctrinally speaking Baptist are about as straight as you can get. Since Baptist churches are autonomous, few over time begin to drift away from traditional Baptist teachings. The radical Fred Phelps and his church claim to be Baptist. They very well may hold some belief that are similar to Baptist, but they are way out of line with Southern, American, and Independent Baptist. I am not aware of any Baptist association that they are affiliated with, or that would support their views.
But to answer your question-no, Baptist are not weird. They are pretty much mainstream Christian America.

I think all people who devoutly follow any religion organized by man odd. Baptists are just more pushy and don't take no for an answer. I say this because since I moved in my house a year ago, I have been plagued with the suckers who feel they need to convert me to their man-made cult. At least twice a week they are either banging on my door or leaving tracts on my car. And YES....they are Baptists. No matter what I say, they still come back.

There are a number of different Baptist denominations and I think each is a little different. Not all are fundamentalist.

I don’t want to make a blanket statement here, me who hates stereotypes, but I have found that Baptists are often friendlier to visitors than some other protestant denominations I could mention.

Baptists are not weird. Maybe to non-Baptists, some of their BELIEFS are weird but that can be said for any religion, eh?

Weird is relative. If everyone on the planet went insane, would you really be the only sane one alive?
Exactly.

No matter who you are or where you are there will be people that you think are weird. Religion, race, and other things make no difference. There's someone, somewhere who thinks you are weird too.

To those who are not biblically oriented, yes. However baptists are referred to as bible thumpers. So here are some of the reasons,

SCRIPTURES TO CONSIDER

FOR THERE IS ONE GOD, AND ONE MEDIATOR BETWEEN GOD AND MEN, THE MAN CHRIST JESUS;
WHO GAVE HIMSELF A RANSOM FOR ALL, TO BE TESTIFIED IN DUE TIME-1 Tim 2:5,6.
WHOSOEVER DENIETH THE SON, THE SAME HATH NOT THE FATHER: (BUT) HE THAT ACKNOWLEDGETH THE SON HATH THE FATHER ALSO-1 Jn 2:23.
(For) HE THAT BELIEVETH ON THE SON OF GOD HATH THE WITNESS IN HIMSELF: HE THAT BELIEVETH NOT GOD HATH MADE HIM A LIAR; BECAUSE HE BELIEVETH NOT THE RECORD THAT GOD GAVE OF HIS SON.
AND THIS IS THE RECORD, THAT GOD HATH GIVEN TO US ETERNAL LIFE, AND THIS LIFE IS IN HIS SON.
HE THAT HATH THE SON HATH LIFE; AND HE THAT HATH NOT THE SON OF GOD HATH NOT LIFE-1 Jn 5:10-12.
AND WE KNOW THAT THE SON OF GOD IS COME, AND HATH GIVEN US AN UNDERSTANDING, THAT WE MAY KNOW HIM THAT IS TRUE, AND WE ARE IN HIM THAT IS TRUE, EVEN IN HIS SON JESUS CHRIST. THIS IS THE TRUE GOD, AND ETERNAL LIFE-1 Jn 5:20.

AND JESUS CAME AND SPAKE UNTO THEM, SAYING, ALL POWER (or authority) IS GIVEN UNTO ME IN HEAVEN AND IN EARTH-Mt 28:18.
THAT ALL MEN SHOULD HONOUR THE SON, EVEN AS THEY HONOUR THE FATHER. HE THAT HONOURETH NOT THE SON HONOURETH NOT THE FATHER WHICH HATH SENT HIM-Jn 5:23.

THERE IS ONE BODY, AND ONE SPIRIT, EVEN AS YE ARE CALLED IN ONE HOPE OF YOUR CALLING-Eph 4:4.
ALL THINGS ARE DELIVERED UNTO ME OF MY FATHER: AND NO MAN KNOWETH THE SON, BUT THE FATHER; NEITHER KNOWETH ANY MAN THE FATHER, SAVE THE SON, AND HE TO WHOMSOEVER THE SON (which is also the Word) WILL REVEAL HIM-Mt 11:27. The Son reveals Him. It may be said also, the Word reveals the Father.

NEITHER IS THERE SALVATION IN ANY OTHER: FOR THERE IS NONE OTHER NAME UNDER HEAVEN GIVEN AMONG MEN, WHEREBY WE MUST BE SAVED-Acts 4:12.
JESUS SAITH UNTO HIM, I AM THE WAY, THE TRUTH, AND THE LIFE: NO MAN COMETH UNTO THE FATHER, BUT BY ME-Jn 14:6.
(And) BEING JUSTIFIED FREELY BY HIS GRACE THROUGH THE REDEMPTION THAT IS IN CHRIST JESUS-Ro 3:24
