There are many viruses and bacteria that thrive in cold temperatures, and your body is simply adjusting to the threat by producing more mucous to trap them and keep them out. It doesn't signal that you are sick. On the contrary, it signals that your body is working efficiently to keep you healthy.

Your body is reacting to the onslaught of cold temperatures and discomfort. Conditions in the air cause the sinuses to run. The body does not do well with draughts and quick changes in temperature.
